About Douglas
Mr. Doug Thornburg is an experienced attorney with a diverse practice, including estate planning, tax, probate and trust administration, charitable and nonprofit organizations, guardianships and conservator ships, marital agreements (prenuptial and postnuptial), and business planning, entity creation and oversight. A primary focus of his practice is helping individuals with estate planning matters; preparation of estate planning documents on behalf of individuals and families, and trusts and probate administration. He has extensive experience in complex individual income, estate, gift and generation-skipping-transfer tax planning and compliance, including representing individuals and entities before the IRS and the preparation of charitable and split-interest trust agreements and the administration of charitable trusts.
Mr. Thornburg has worked with a number of nonprofit organizations in the incorporation of nonprofit organizations and creation of charitable trusts, providing guidance on operational and management issues, preparation of applications for recognition of exemption under Section 501(c)(3), and consultation with the IRS in the Section 501(c)(3)-application process. Mr. Thornburg also handles incorporation and organization of business corporations and limited liability companies, preparation of shareholder agreements, by-laws, and operating agreements, and consultation with business owners concerning corporate and limited liability company issues. He provides guidance to regular and non-profit corporations regarding ongoing operations and legal liability issues and provides business-focused legal support for small, medium, and large businesses and nonprofit corporations in areas including advertising, real estate, corporate governance, employment and benefits issues, and preparation and review of business contracts.
Before moving to St. Louis in 1999, Mr. Thornburg was associated with large Firms in New York City and Miami, and still represents clients with regard to both New York and Florida law.
