About Edward
Edward J. Bilik has been practicing criminal law for thirty (30) years, trying cases in both federal and state court. He has represented many defendants in high profile cases involving white-collar crimes such as embezzlement, money laundering, bank & insurance fraud, and many others. Attorney Bilik has many years of experience in the defense of drug-related prosecutions, having represented clients in federal RICO prosecutions, including the former president of the Pagan Motorcycle Club and a reputed leader of a Larimer street gang. His experience involves the representation of thousands of clients charged with serious criminal charges ranging from the most serious of Homicide, to the less serious of Theft and DUI.
Attorney Bilik has represented clients before both state and federal investigative grand juries and is extremely knowledgeable in dealing with agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Secret Service, Office of the Pennsylvania Attorney General and the Pennsylvania State Police. He has been successful in advising clients through investigations that were resolved without criminal charges ever being filed.
Attorney Bilik has developed remarkable strategy in criminal defense cases in that he has spent the last twenty-eight (28) years dealing with clients and law enforcement agents in highly-charged criminal investigations, including the service of search and arrest warrants. He has experience in advising clients in difficult circumstances where law enforcement is requiring immediate action such as service of search warrants, surrender upon an arrest warrant and arraignment. Attorney Bilik is always on-call to counsel his clients in the case of an emergency. In fact, some of the busiest hours of his workday are in the middle of the night.
Over the years, Attorney Bilik has advised many clients through investigations of their business or professional practices involving government investigations of fraud, finance, theft, money laundering and banking violations. He has represented prominent professionals that have experienced the trauma of either a state or federal investigation. Most recently, he represented a defendant charged with embezzling and laundering over $8 million through an armored car company.
It has always been his counsel and advice that a criminal suspect or defendant speak to an attorney as soon as he or she has any anticipation of a criminal investigation. The sooner the better! Any suspect or defendant should seek counsel before answering any questions of a law enforcement officer. Good legal counsel guides the client through the investigation, protecting the interests of the client, monitoring the accuracy of any statements made by a law enforcement officer to the client and assuring that the client is not misled. Understanding that police officers may mislead a client in order to obtain voluntary statements and unwitting cooperation, a client is best served by obtaining legal counsel at the earliest possible moment.
