Blake and Associates were the legal advisers to a friend of mine as he was contemplating various bequests for his will, including setting up a complicated, first-of-its-kind scholarship to a prestigious graduate school in Boston. As one of the trustees implementing that bequest, I have worked closely with Blake and Associates for a decade. David and Carolyn came gave a presentation at our symposium on SSADH. We had never met them before and contacted their office to ask if they would speak about setting up special needs trusts and guardianship. The children who have SSADH need life long support. So without ever meeting us they came and presented. They spent time with the families explaining options and offered to follow up with families who had additional questions. They truly care about the work they do.

It was in August of 2004 that our daughter, Merrian Carver. went missing from her home in Cambridge. Since we lived in Arizona, in order to determine what happened, it was necessary for us to take action to gain legal authority to move forward since she was 40 years old and was an adult. We turned to Blake Law firm to assist in our effort. We were assigned to Carolyn Martello Spaulding who was assigned to work with us. We never could have anticipated that we were starting a journey which after months, through the efforts of the firm, lead us to determine that we were dealing with a cover up regarding the disappearance of Merrian. After months, it was determined that she had taken a cruise. It was also determined that the cruise line had cover-up her disappearance and disposed of her personal item. During our months of investigation, it was the guidance of Carolyn and David Blake that lead the way. They were outstanding to work with. Our daughter’s disappearance became the subject of five congressional hearings. Through the efforts of Sen. John Kerry, historic legislation was passed to protect the public from crimes on cruise ships. Her story is still being told in the world wide media. However, this could not have been possible without the efforts of Blake Law Firm who walked this journey with us. We will always be grateful to them for their guidance and compassion.
