Well, where do I begin......I used this law firm to help with the condo process on a property I put an offer on. I selected this firm based on a recommendation from a family member who has used them for several years so I assumed I was in good hands. The first thing was that I never spoke with my lawyer at any point during the process, I included her on emails that she never replied to. I only worked with her paralegal which might be normal but a bit frustrated my own lawyer Cheri didn't communicate with me at all. The response time was always a couple days later on any inquiries I had, when I communicated that I was frustrated that I wasn't receiving a timely response I was told that "Well if you don't hear from us that means we don't have an answer for you" When it comes to real estate everything is hurry up and wait so even if there wasn't a response I could have been at least told that. I was sent a retainer letter via email which no one took the time to explain to me what it was so I never signed it and on the retainer letter it basically stated that they can bill for services at any time with no specific dollar amount listed or clear terms as what was considered additional services. When the property fell through my paralegal Betty said "Ok we will go ahead and terminate the contract and send you a cancellation invoice for $150." I specifically asked what the fees were for using their services when I first communicated with them and she only said $495 for the closing costs, not one single mention of a cancellation fee at any point nor is there a cancellation fee mentioned in the retainer letter (the one I NEVER signed). So when I asked Betty if that fee could be waived, I received the response from Cheri (the lawyer who never communicated with me during the process) that I had to pay this fee for all the work they put into the property. We went back and forth where I stated I never signed nor agreed to these fees and because of their services I will never use them for future properties. They care more about $$ then their clients or doing quality work and it was extremely disappointing that the only time I heard from Cheri was to collect my money. I have recently reached out again to sincerely ask for this fee to be waived as I continue to be invoiced and she ignored my email. I am in no way the type to post bad reviews or skip on a bill but it is the principal of the matter that they attempted to charge blind fees instead of retain loyal clients. Please do not use their services, at least not for real estate.
Berry Tucker conducted himself very unprofessionally during our free consultation. He ignored my questions and spoke condescendingly the entire time. When I asked him to specify a legal concept or clarify the next steps in my proposed case, he dismissed my question and said he doesn't have time to explain everything one learns in law school. He spoke over me, and then he had the audacity to tell me to stop speaking when I tried to ask him a question so that he could continue pontificating about something only tangentially related to my original question. nnI asked him a direct, clear, well-researched question, and he responded by making a face and telling me it doesn't make sense. When I said I couldn't be clearer, he cut me off and said he will not represent me. I told him this was a waste of our time because I found him extremely condescending, unclear, and unprofessional, and he YELLED that I was obnoxious. nnAnd if that isn't enough to avoid him, he quoted me TWICE what the next nearest 3 lawyers quoted me. nnBerry K. Tucker is condescending, unprofessional, and overpriced.
Berry Tucker is an excellent attorney. He is extremely knowledgeable about most aspects of the law. He is patient and understanding. I needed help after my closing on my house. He was able to come to an understanding with the buyer and get me money back. I am a happy client.
Your expertise and your advice in the family law area are very much appreciated. Thank you very much.
In November 2014, my husband and I met with Attorney Berry Tucker to consult with him regarding a domestic matter (child support reduction). During the consultation, I gave Mr. Tucker information and figures related to the case and he proceeded to do some calculating on his own. His calculations were incorrect, as he completed them using my husband's net income, without adding in the child support amount, which was already being deducted. He acknowledged that he was wrong and when we received the documents in the mail from him, they included the same incorrect figures he'd produced during the consultation. Two telephone conversations later, the matter was resolved. When the corrected documents were drafted, we were contacted by his office staff and told the dollar amount we needed (the total paid $1500.) to bring to them when picking up the documents. Without any additional glitches, the case was filed and the child support was reduced. THREE months later we received a bill in the mail for 1100+ additional charges! $500 of the $1100 reduced, according to the bill, as a courtesy! There were charges for the telephone calls, which were made for me to explain the calculations to the Attorney AGAIN, mileage, a phone call to the Judge, who presided over the case (why I wonder...we were not told of any nor can we think of any related need to contact the Presiding Judge). When I called the Attorney to speak with him about the bill we received THREE months after our business had concluded, his staff claimed to not know if he was in the office. NOTE: This is the SAME office we met him in, where we went to pick up and return documents and where we made payments, and unless there were some major renovations made since we visited on those occasions, his door is 5-6 feet from her desk. She would have to be blind and deaf to not know whether he were in the office or not.nThree days later, when the Attorney did return my call, he said to me, "I thought you'd be excited about the $500. courtesy discount." Needless to say, I am not excited. I am furious that the service we agreed upon for an estimated $1500 (an amount according to him we should expect without any outstanding circumstances--which there weren't outside of the Attorney's mistake or failure to understand the math), which has now amounted to $2600+. If you need simple legal services, I STRONGLY recommend you seeking assistance from another Attorney! If you need major assistance, run! Otherwise you, like my husband and I, may receive a surprise bill in the mail, three months after your services have been rendered and told you should be excited about his COURTESY DISCOUNT!!! I felt ripped off in November ($1500 is A LOT of money for what we needed, but the matter was important enough for us to have resolved by someone, who we believed to be a professional, so we agreed to the exorbitant fee). I now feel extorted! By the way, the reason given by Mr. Tucker for the three month delay in billing was, "we were busy taking care of business." Last I checked, record keeping (including timely billing) is key to operating a successful and reputable business. I never expected this, but I guess that is because I expected too much! Don't wind up like us with an unwanted, unexpected courtesy dressed up and camouflaged in a three month old $1100+ BILL!!!
