Mary E Howell

Attn. Mary Howell is the reason you still get to see musicians playing on the streets of New Orleans. She invited musicians to call her if they were arrested by the police and then, with the help of Anthony "Tuba Fats" Lacy, David Leonard & Roselyn Lionhart, Brad Ott and others filed suit in Federal Court twice against the City of New Orleans and once against the State of Louisiana. One New Orleans judge gently pointed out that New Orleans was, "...not a quiet country lane..." and the judge in the case against the state threw that one out stating, "...it would eliminate Mardi Gras as we know it if it were allowed to stand!"
