Katherine is everything. Because of a 2019 tax law change, we were under the gun to finalize our divorce by December 31, 2018. I was on the phone with Katherine at 10:30pm on New Years Eve, as the notary was on his way, and had been consistently in the days prior. Sometimes we worked as a team and sometimes Katherine took control, but in all cases she kept me fair and focused on my goals. Katherine puts the collaborative in “collaborative divorce”. Even when money is tight, everyone can come out with what they need in a divorce settlement, but it takes a lawyer with Katherine’s experience, intelligence and solution mindedness to make that happen. My ex husband doesn’t realize how much he benefitted from Katherine being my lawyer. Something else: They tell you not to use your divorce lawyer as your therapist, and that’s obviously true. But it’s also true that you need a lawyer with emotional intelligence - and the more the better. Particularly at the beginning of the process, Katherine could see I was in pain and rather than just stick to business, she’d take a moment to say unprompted, “You are going to be okay. You will lead a happy life. I can see you’re committed to it and you will.” And I believed her because she’s seen it all and she’s been through it - and that made all the difference. (I’d think twice about hiring a divorce lawyer who hasn’t been divorced). Katherine is at the top of the game. I never once wondered whether I could have hired a better lawyer - for me. I had full faith throughout. You need that.
This is a very different kind of law firm that I wish I know about before going through my own painful and prolonged litigated divorce. There is a focus on dignity, compassion and protecting children and families.
Knowledgeable, experienced and caring law firm.
