I have used Mike Whitticar of NOVA IP Law for both my professional and personal needs for over 5 years. Upon meeting Mike, he was very mild-mannered and polite, not what I expected from an attorney. I soon learned his bite is bigger than his bark. Inside the courtroom, Mike is suitably aggressive and very effective. I took Mr. Whitticar a legal issue that I’ve been struggling with through multiple firms for over a decade now. I’ve found him to be focused, intuitive, and brilliant. He has ferreted out details in this case that I’ve never considered, and has managed to peel back the layers of these issues in a way that I’ve found amazing. I know this issue because I’ve had to live it for years, but somehow he’s always a step ahead of me in his thinking. His fresh look and more robust interpretation of the issues and statutes at hand has brought a new and proven perspective that other attorneys seemed to miss. He is principled, polite, kind and direct. Going to him for help has been the best decision I could have made.

Horrendous experience. As a small business owner and inventor, I was looking to hire this firm to transition two of my provisional patents to non-provisional filings. I spent 4 months communicating with an attorney from their firm and I still am no closer to having the applications submitted to USPTO. I would provide specifications of my inventions and turn over all of my materials only to be asked to fill out different worksheets asking for duplicative information to what was previously provided [very frustrating and confusing]. After one of their attorneys had reviewed all of my documents, I was quoted a fee and I indicated I wanted to proceed. A few weeks later, the attorney tried to arbitrarily raise his price quote so I said I would need to shop around and I'd let him know if I wanted to proceed at his new rate. He called back within 30 minutes because he suddenly recalled his previous quote (that I had written down). Now uneasy with their business and ethical practices, I sought to define the terms of our relationship more clearly and requested that both parties endorse a written contract that specified each's expectations of the other clearly (so I'd know exactly what they'd need from me to complete what I was asking for, and so I'd be assured they were clear on what I wanted)... I received a terse and unprofessional email from a different attorney in reply to that request. I knew then that it was best to just 'cut bait' and run. These are all just my opinions based off of my personal experiences as someone not well-versed in patent law (which is why I was seeking legal assistance)...but my advice? DO NOT GIVE THIS FIRM YOUR BUSINESS.
