Even with complex matters, he is able to consult with a client, review relevant documents, identify the most critical pieces of written communication, and devise an action plan, and do it all with kindness. Not only does he fully explain his reasoning, he is an active listener. Focused on collaboration and problem-solving, Attorney Cowan has consistently gone the extra mile (or marathon) to support me as a client and ensure I am fully informed. He also represented me in what became a complex guardianship case for my child with autism and was skilled at working with all parties, and again he was able to receive a favorable account for my son (and me). Andy is also available by whatever method we had identified as being most productive. I spoke with Melissa Tobin on May 20 for over one hour via telephone regarding my civil case. She did come across pleasant and told me that she would email me some state court cases and get back to me concerning some documents I had emailed her. I heard nothing back from Melissa. I both emailed her and texted requesting a call back and received nothing. I spoke with the supervising attorney, Meaghan Cary who told me that Melissa would call me back later that day on May 31. I got nothing. I called back again on June 1 and left another message. Bupkis! FYI!!!! I am glad I did not hire this firm.

These people are complete thieves plain and simple. They will misrepresent you, mislead you and the misconduct is unacceptable. I was "represented" by Melissa Tobin for a magistrate hearing back in January. The hearing never even took place, all her research was done prior, and I was told by her I would recieve most of my retainer back. However, Andrew Cowan decided its fair to charge me for time and hrs that were not even met or worked the day of the hearing. Then when I requested the remainder of my retainer back per our agreement it wasn't even close to the amount Melissa told my wife and I that I would be getting back. I have attempted to contact both Melissa and Andrew for months via phone and email which is all well documented and have been told everytime I call that my refund will be sent. Nearly 5 months later and still nothing. They are in clear violation of rules 1.5 and more importantly 8.4 of The Rules of Professional Conduct. I will be making a formal complaint with the MBA and ABA because something needs to be done. If they have done this to you I suggest you do the same. This is completely disgusting and unprofessional.

I first met Andrew at the DC Public Defender years ago. He is one of the most intelligent, skillful, and dedicated criminal defense lawyers I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an attorney in Massachusetts.
