Tom Geoghegan is compassionate and cares about his clients. Thank you for all that you’ve done for me and my family.

I would stay far, far away from this firm. Tom Geoghegan offered a lot of advice during in-take that turned out to be entirely wrong. At one point he literally raised his voice and started talking over me and speaking to me like I was a disobedient five year old child. He also thought that I wanted too much money, even though I hadn't said anything about money. He assumed that I wanted six figures even though I had never put forward any dollar amount. He raised his voice to emphasize that we would not get much money for my type of a case and that he wanted to get it through my head in advance that a large settlement was not possible. This is an inexcusable way for one adult to speak to another, and it is entirely inappropriate to respond to a traumatic story about harassment and sexism with condescension and rudeness. It is bad enough that women in my position do not get representation while the men have the best attorneys paid for by the institution. But to face violence from your attorney during intake is too much for anyone to deal with. Mr. Goeghegan assumed that since I was from California, I would have unrealistic expectations when it came to money. I decided not to go with him. I filed pro se (without an attorney) in Federal Court, and the case is now settled. If you have a college degree and the time to visit the pro se help desk, you will do far better on your own than with Mr. Goeghegan. Ironically, my case dealt with gender discrimination, and on top of everything I suffered at work, I had to deal with a paternalistic, rude, condescending "progressive" civil rights attorney who did nothing to help me despite his purported concern for marginalized classes. When you disregard a client with a legitimate case and lower the dollar value to make things easier to settle on the first round, you legalize discrimination. I spent an hour being bullied by a (much) older man who thought he knew better than me because he was the attorney. It turns out he was wrong on every point. I would give him a negative rating rather than one star if I could, and I cry for the victims who rely upon Mr. Geoghegan for representation.
