David Wessel helps to alienate kids from their parents and manipulates kids he represents against their parents. In a case I am familiar with he enlisted the help of one parent to 'box in' (his term) the other parent. He did this by telling the court that 'a therapy is needed for the child and the family' and proceeding to appoint a 'therapist' of his choice (turned out later that they knew each other, of course.) The 'therapy' culminated by Wessel presenting a letter from the therapist to the court which, using quotes from the child, accused the other parent of being 'socially harmful' to the child. That prompted the court to severely limit the visitation schedule. The letter was presented in court without the therapist even talking to the parent in question. Of course, this was the end of the 'therapy', the therapist did not want to discuss the ridiculus accusations with the parent. It was my strong impression that Wessel did this sort of things before. Scary that people of this sort are made to represent children in court! From what I read it seems that this technique is not uncommon during visitation disputes. Some psychologists specializing in parental alienation write about the role attorneys and 'therapists' play in manipulating kids. Disgusting. Parents beware and stay away from this crook.

He is dedicated and skilled to his clients, and as a former LCSW, he brings enormous understanding and skill to his work as a GAL or Child's Rep. Among the judges in the Daley Center, he is one of the most well regarded Child's Reps available. Any negative comments on this board may be from disgruntled litigants. When a lawyer is recognized well by both the bench and the bar, he or she is considered outstanding.
