It is really sad when a family business changes generations and becomes so focused on money they give their family business a bad name. I have purchased thousands and thousands of dollars of merchandise from John T. Henry Auction in the past year and can't tell you how many times I arrived to pick up filthy, broken, and misrepresented items that had not been listed or shown as such in the pictures and comments online. After expressing my concerns to one of the owners, I was told they would take it back if that was the case, but that proved NOT to be the case. In fact, I was told to never come back and buy from them again. It seems to me that the focus is on $$$$$$$$ not customers or sellers. I sold some items there and still haven't been paid and they broke some of the items after I submitted them, greatly reducing their value. It's just not worth it in my opinion! You think you are saving money buying at those auctions, but I personally have decided not to sacrifice my self respect dealing with certain unethical business practices.
The overall auction and prices were ok, but he does not do in house shipping. Shipping is done by SCNAVIS and the shipping charges are outrageous! So, with the good price I paid for the coins and the super high shipping charges ( won 3 silver dollars, with a weight of 4.3 in a small bubble envelope was over $38! - The shipping company did lower the price to $32 which is still terrible!). Won't be bidding on items at this auction since any bargains are offset be the shipping charges.
I only put one because I have too. I have a poor HiBid score due to some seedy Auctioneers playing games with me on HiBid? I only had issues with two crooked Auctioneers and other Auctioneers look see it and decline me without using me? Just like this Co.? But I have over 20+ positive ones that use me. I have a handful of bad merchandise from crooked Auctioneers, who protects the bidder? NOONE? I say don't use this Auction Company or any others that does not give a person a fair shake?
Love the auction and love the people. It's a slippery slope of addiction when you realize what you can get. Look, simply, it's an auction just like any other. If you're going to bid, then you SHOULD check it out first. If you buy it without kicking the tires and then find out you don't like it, who's fault is that? They have a big "novel" to read when you sign up that says it nicer. You can find just about anything if you wait long enough. From NEW IN BOX tools to a rusty worn hammer and everything in between. A great local gem, with great deals if you bid wisely - I mean, after all you do have to know when too much is too much. Sometimes someone else just wants it more than you do. LET IT GO! Or not. And good people if you get to know them. Say hello and extend your hand. Don't be afraid to bring some things in and line them up in the next auction either. Don't expect to get what you paid for them at Macy's, but you can move that stuff you've been wondering what you were going to do with. So, sitting on the couch not doing much else but watching 90 Day Fiance? Well grab that chrome book and browse through some pages. Make some notes. Go take a look, and bid. Just don't bid against me.
Been going here for months and spent thousands with this place. Mistakes happen, which I fully understand. However after having a 3rd issue with either the items I won not being there when I show up or the photos on the auction being wrong I felt it was time to change my 5 star rating. I bid and won an auction for hot wheels diecast cars. There were two hot wheels lots. Both had loose hot wheels in a plastic container. When I went to pick my stuff up they told me the cars were not there and they’d have to refund me. As I mentioned I had two other issues similar to this where I just kept my mouth shut. I was a little put off that they didn’t even offer to contact the buyer of the other hot wheels lot, as reason and common sense would offer that the buyer of the other hot wheels cars was given mine by accident. A simple mistake that could have been easily rectified. They had no interest in trying to help me out and seemed to have no problem that the other buyer got double what they actually won. When I simply said “I do this for a living and just spent $400 here today, I have to say this is a little upsetting.” They proceeded to get ignorant with me and say “sh*t happens”.:.. You can absolutely get some good deals here and they have a nice array of different items. However if you cannot buy with confidence that the items you’ve already paid for are actually going to be available when you got to pick them up, and NO RESOLUTION is even offered it’s kinda hard to stand behind them. I support local businesses as much as possible. However it appears that they have gotten too big to really care for their loyal customers who spend hundreds of dollars per week. Sad really.
