I am chronically ill and have been my whole life. I have seen DOZENS and DOZENS of doctors, and I have NEVER, ever, ever, EVER had an experience like this. If you prefer to be treated as a competent human being capable of making decisions for their healthcare, stay away. Dr. Diaz-Martin exemplifies the paternalism in medicine that some older practitioners have yet to outgrow. My endo recommended I get an IUD to help manage my painful periods. Dr. Diaz-Martin let me know that she works with a pharmaceutical company that would guarantee that I could get my IUD paid for. However, Dr. Diaz-Martin told me that it would be a “strike” against her if I were to get the IUD and then decide to have it removed if I have not tried oral contraceptives first. I have never had a doctor be so shamelessly open about prioritizing something other than the WELLNESS OF THE PATIENT in making decisions about care. Anyway, she told me she was putting me on oral contraceptives. I had concerns because I get migraines and am bipolar, both making me a better match for an IUD. When I went to go pick them up I was informed by the pharmacist that they would not be as effective because I am on a mood stabilizer. Obviously disturbed by this info, I reached out to Dr. Diaz Martin as well as my endocrinologist. Apparently, Dr. Diaz-Martin did not take very well to me criticizing her in a conversation another clinician. She ended up calling me. Knowing from my messages that I had already sought alternative care, she had literally had NO reason to do so. She could have summarized everything in a very short email but apparently she couldn’t communicate her disdain for me effectively over email. She started out by saying that I was wrong about the mood stabilizers and that I shouldn’t be looking things up (a classic way to undermine the intelligence of your patient). Though she did endorse that mood stabilizers make oral contraceptives less effective, she refused to explain how. In fact, she treated every question I asked as a major inconvenience, since she would have to spend SO much time explaining the extremely complex information that I would never understand anyway (insert huge eye roll). This person had the GALL to say “I see I’m the second gyno you’ve had at Summit so I suppose my question is, what do you want from us?” Are you f***ing kidding me?? What do I want from you?? Dr. Diaz-Martin was so quick to assume I am a problem patient instead of taking my concerns seriously. She also said that I am “too young” to be “this distrustful of the medical community”. Honestly, this is the big “F*** YOU” moment for me. Dr. Diaz Martin has NO idea what I have been through, nor does she care to know. I have been hospitalized TWICE for medical negligence. I have been passed around from specialist to specialist at Summit Medical Group for the past FOUR years, being told there was nothing wrong with me and that I just need to “cope”. Within a month of seeking care elsewhere I was diagnosed with a serious autoimmune condition. So yes, I get a lot of second opinions. I will not be made to feel crazy by this sorry excuse for a doctor or any other practitioner for prioritizing my well-being and care over their undeservedly inflated egos. Another great line from this call: “I shouldn’t even be calling you, my staff should be. I’m taking time out of my day.” Dr. Diaz-Martin, you do not deserve a medal for communicating with your patients yourself. I should mention that this entire time her voice is RAISED at me. I may be “overly sensitive” as Dr. Diaz-Martin called me, but I have never had a doctor raise their voice at me. She is speaking to someone who she KNOWS struggles with mental health, is being combative, and then shifts the blame around on that person for having an emotional reaction to it?? As someone who also regularly communicates with several doctors on a weekly basis, and has NEVER had any problems even REMOTELY close to this, I am inclined to say that I am not the problem here. For those looking, I recommend Ms. Renata Estes in Princeton.

This Dr. and her staff especially her office manager Kim are especially disgusting and terrible to the patients especially during this time of Covid. My first time seeing the doctor and meeting her staff was the worst experience I’ve ever had in my life. Stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can be treated with respect and dignity from better physicians than her and her staff.
