Excellent area and setup, ideally, but the servers could use some help. The male working acknowledged customers and took orders. A blonde female acted like you needed her attention before a drink.
My wife and I came here to experience the famous bar mentioned in a Zach Bryan song. We drove all the way from south Georgia. When we first walked in we were immediately greeted by the bar tender Jay. Jay was very professional and did a great job showing two southerners some at home hospitality. He was very attentive and held great conversation. I personally loved the bar and the atmosphere, but smokey dive bars are my thing. Drinks were super cheap as well. Once our time here came to a close I gave Jay two patches from the Fire Department and Station I am assigned too. I explained that some bars and brewery's take them and hang them up to show support from around the world, and that I felt McGlinchey's was certainly worthy of displaying the patches. Jay explained that he is retired military and loved this idea and he accepted the patches with pride. I hope to come back to McGlinchey's one day. They certainly know how to make you feel at home.
Awesome local dive bar that you can still smoke in and enjoy a drink! Lots of locals and regulars but are also very friendly and make it a fun atmosphere. The food, however, doesn't truly exist aside from hot dogs, which, as I was told before going don't have the greatest reputation.
let me tell you something personal. when i was 18 i studied abroad in london, and went on to meet one of my lifelong closest friends there. we connected through our bizarre habit of loving approaching and conversing with the most maniacal looking strangers possible. we would go out near nightly, hit the seediest bars and clubs we could, and talk to the most unpleasant seeming characters we could find for hours on end. i have stories for a lifetime, and it’s one of the most cherished phases of my life. mcglincheys is a bar that makes me feel like i’m back in london, 18 years old, can talk to anyone and leave with a ridiculous story. i love the absolute chaos of their refusal to reinstall a lock on their broken bathroom door—we unironically need more of this in the world. thank god there’s a place where i can still smoke a cigarette with a stranger indoors. thank god for mcglincheys.
Love the city. It's amazing and has so many different things to do. I had a great day this day.
