About Glenn
Glenn Lewis is Chairman and Founder of The Lewis Law Firm, P.C., a national law practice emphasizing family and matrimonial law. Among the most sought after of divorce lawyers, Glenn Lewis has appeared in cases in more than twenty-five states and the District of Columbia.
A noted legal theorist, his advocacy and leadership garner significant credit for ground breaking developments in family law. These collectively have transformed child and spouse protection, support, property distribution, divorce representation, and the state of family law from a simple, second-tier discipline, to its present recognition as commensurate with the vital role family law plays in society. He has earned a reputation for education, policy enhancement and public betterment, including for excellence, professionalism and a remarkable record of client satisfaction. He has often expressed great satisfaction for these citations, even more so than for his well-earned reputation within the profession as a skilled trial lawyer, advocate and negotiator.
Mr. Lewis has been named by Washingtonian Magazine - in each of its reviews - as one of Washington's best divorce lawyers. In the March 2000 issue, Mr. Lewis was cited by his peers as one of the top two divorce lawyers in the Washington Metropolitan Area, and the top trial attorney in Northern Virginia. He serves as an adjunct professor of law at the George Mason University School of Law and was named Charter Faculty for the Virginia College of Trial Advocacy, at the College of William and Mary. As a recipient of the George Mason University School of Law Distinguished Achievement Award, Mr. Lewis was honored among eminent guests and other award recipients, including former Attorney General Edwin Meese, III. Recently, he was honored by the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section with the Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honored his character, commitment, achievement and a lifetime and substantial contribution to the practice and administration of family law in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He also has been selected by his peers to be included in The Best Lawyers in America each year since 1994.
Lewis' legal insights, expertise and broadcasting experience have long made him a fixture in media, explaining and commenting on legal matters of public interest through such diverse outlets as NBC, CBS, CNN, ABC, Fox News, BBC-One World Television and Radio, The Washington Post, Washington Times, NY Times, Newsweek and Time Magazines. Now in hiatus to accommodate digital programming, Law Weekly (discussed below) is a national award winning television talk show, created and produced by Mr. Lewis to increase public awareness and education on law, justice and the legal system. The program began in 1989 as a collaboration of the Fairfax Bar and Channel 10, Fairfax Cable Access. Judge (then FBA President) Robert Wooldridge, Jr. was its first guest; at his term's end in 1990, he presented Mr. Lewis with the FBA President's Award. After appearing in five episodes of the award-winning Miller's Court, Mr. Lewis was called, "One of America's greatest trial attorneys," by Harvard Professor Arthur Miller.
Among his activities in bar leadership, Mr. Lewis is a past chair of the Virginia Bar Association's Domestic Relations Section and the Domestic Relations Council (of which he has been a member since 1996). He served as President of the Fairfax Bar Association from 1995-1996. He currently serves as Council, Senior Representative from 19th Judicial Circuit for the Virginia Bar Association and is the Associations President-Elect. Mr. Lewis also is a former chair of the Virginia State Bar Special Committee on Access to Legal Services, and served as a member of the American Bar Association's House of Delegates for eight years.
Mr. Lewis received a B.A. degree in Political and Public Affairs from the University of Miami in 1973, and a J.D. from George Mason University School of Law in 1977.
