Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Aguirre A probate case that required three evidentiary hearings, a trial and an appellate review that was decided in our client's favor.

How did you build a successful practice?

I have built my practice on honesty in my advice, candor as to legal issues and empathy for my clients. I maintain a high degree of professionalism and in part that was due to the high expectations and training as an Attorney General where we were expected to maintain the highest of ethical and moral standard when we represented the State of Minnesota in a legal matter as we as opposed citizens of our fine state that were paying our salaries.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

People should seek an attorney who will provide an honest assessment and opinion of their legal claims who is willing to work together in resolving the case in the most cost effective manner. The attorney should be ethical ,aggressive but morally strong in their convictions to seek the best interest of their client but not sacrificing personal or professional relationships at all costs.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

The attorney should specialize in the area of law win which they are being sought to provide advice. My 30 years of practice serves me well in providing a proper legal perspective and advice they can rely upon.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I can share procedural advice, an assessment of the case issues and share costs of pursuing the claims. This often removes some of the anxiety for my potential clients as the unknown is more frightening than the reality with a new and proper perspective.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

I like to know the name, address and other party's name to do a conflict check. I then ask for general information about the parties respective careers, the issues they are experiencing and their desired goals. I often need basic income information to discuss child support and spousal support.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I feel that I should be the person of last resort for people. I do not believe they should take legal action lightly as it has high costs emotionally, financially and is time intensive. I encourage alternative dispute resolution first and counseling if applicable before parties hire me. I settle most of my cases because I am quick with financial issues and numbers, can see the bigger picture and apply the law properly earlier than other attorneys.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Helping people move forward with more hope and peace than when they first contacted me.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I love my time with Wife Loretta and our family. I practice devoutly my faith as a Catholic and pursue additional knowledge through formal bible studies. I spend time each year on two silent retreats at Demontreville practicing the spiritual exercises' of St, Ignatius. I host an annual trip for friends or family to Disney World. I enjoy woodworking, hiking and travelling.

Are you involved in your community?

I am a member and trustee of Transfiguration Catholic Church, a Lions club member for over 25 years, a past ski patroller at Afton Alps, a volunteer in many activities via various groups in both Woodbury and Oakdale, MN
