About Gunter
Born and raised in southern Germany, Gunter was a successful middle and long distance runner from an early age. Recruited by track club in Cologne, Germany, he competed nationally and internationally in Cross Country, track (predominantly 5,000 and 10,000 meters) and road races. His running career in German and European road running events included sub-29 minute performances in the 10k, and personal bests of 1:05 in the Half-Marathon and 2:17 in the Marathon.
Gunter studied English and Geography at the University of Cologne, Germany and later attended law school there. He was graduated in 1992 (1st State Exam) and continued legal education in Germany taking his 2nd State Exam in 1995.
After graduating from law school, Gunter was invited to train in Flagstaff, AZ with the German National Team for 1992 Olympics. Injury issues, unfortunately, prevented Gunter from qualifying for the German Olympic team. However, he fell in love with the American Southwest. In 1995 he made his dream come true and relocated to Flagstaff, Arizona where he joined the law firm of AWD in October of that year.
Gunter has specialized in complex Personal Injury cases as well as Wrongful Death cases. He works closely in conjunction with the German General Consulate and has represented numerous German nationals who were injured in motor-vehicle or aviation accidents.
He continues to dedicate time to long distance running and cross country skiing. Being a marathoner and long distance runner he is used to working hard and had taken that training and attitude and applied it to his work. He is always willing to go the extra mile for his clients.
Gunter Ziwey has a deep appreciation for the Native cultures and the natural wonders of the American Southwest. In his time off, you will find him touring the Grand Canyon, the Canyon lands of Utah, Bryce Canyon, Mesa Verde, just to name a few, off the beaten path and he has found many special places on the Colorado Plateau.
