So he became a lawyer—but he didn’t forget his roots. Franks Gerkin McKenna, the law firm he started, is actually located on that same farmland where Herbert used to milk cows.

Herb began his law career in 1961, and was a partner in a law firm in Rockford, Illinois. He won the first million dollar jury verdict in McHenry County. After winning this case and others, he opened his first office in Marengo. His legacy in McHenry County is distinguished and undeniable. He was the only president of the Illinois State Bar Association to come out of McHenry County.

Just had a case where the insurance carrier told the client that Wisconsin Law applied and made an offer based on Wisconsin Law. I studied the facts and determined Wisconsin Law did not apply and was able to get the client more than five time their offer.

Listen to the client and if they are right, fight hard for them. If client is wrong be direct ( don't mince words) and then reach a favorable result.

Someone who is competent, hears what the client wants and then tells them honestly what a reasonable outcome should be.
