About J.
J. Clay Fuller. A native Georgian, Clay Fuller grew up in Dalton. He attended the University of Georgia where he was in the Honors Program, earning his B.A. in history in 1988.
Following graduation, like his father and brother before him, Clay pursued a career in music. Clay played lead guitar in Allgood, a rock band which toured nationally and made several records including three for A&M Records. While with Allgood, Clay had the honor of sharing the bill with legendary performers like Neil Young and the Allman Brothers Band and also worked closely with some of the finest musicians of his generation including Widespread Panic, Phish, and the Dave Matthews Band.
When Allgood broke up in the mid-1990s, Clay attended the University of Georgia School of Law where he earned a Castellow Scholarship, worked as a teaching assistant for Professor Tom Eaton's torts class, and participated in the GEORGIA LAW REVIEW (including serving as Articles Editor in 1998-1999). He won the C.J.S. Award in Property, graduated Magna Cum Laude, and was selected for membership in the Order of the Coif.
Clay's legal employment began with a clerkship for the Honorable Richard W. Story in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia from 1999-2001. Clay assisted Judge Story on a wide range of civil matters; most notably employment, class actions, and product liability cases.
Following his clerkship Clay entered private practice with a nationally-recognized trial firm where he initially worked on several automotive products liability cases with Pete Daughtery and Jason Crawford. Shortly after joining the firm, he and Jason Crawford began to develop that firm's class action practice. Clay's primary area of expertise is in using electronic records in the class action context. Records from the defendant's computer system played a significant role in the groundbreaking settlement of McBride v. Life of Virginia, and electronic records have proved critical in achieving class certification over the defendant's objection in credit insurance unearned premium litigation.
A co-author of Trial Practice and Procedure from the Mercer Law Review over the last three years, Clay was a Barrister of the Lumpkin Inn of Court from 2003-2005. He is admitted to practice in Georgia, and is a member of the American Bar Associations, American Trial Lawyers Association, Georgia Trial Lawyers Association and the Columbus Trial Lawyers Association.
Clay is a member of the Executive Board of the Chattahoochee Council of the Boy Scouts of America and is an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where he plays lead guitar in praise and worship band -- Lighthouse. Clay and his wife Samantha enjoy spending time with their four children.
