About Jacob

As a family law attorney, I believe in crafting the right strategy for the right moment. Having grown up in a family of potters, mosaic workers, and auto repairmen, I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and carefully consider the technical aspects of a case to keep it running smoothly.

I serve as both an advocate and a “translator” of my clients’ personal issues into “legalese” in order to guide them through the available options before a court. This often involves showing them what pitfalls to avoid. Some past clients have reported that they relied upon my candor, calm demeanor, and pragmatic views of their case, while others have reported that they appreciated my effectiveness in their hearings.

Over the years, the practice of family law become ever more technical. This means it’s become easier for a party to lose their case based on an unforeseen technicality. With this in mind, I've taken the time to become Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and I take additional courses each year to maintain membership in the Texas Bar College.

As a graduate of Baylor Law School and its rigorous “Practice Court” program, my goal is to always be ready for every eventuality and to be better prepared than those on the other side. That has resulted in many favorable rulings on behalf of my clients.

I have been named to Thomson Reuters’ annual list of Texas Rising Stars for the years 2018-2024, and I have received distinction in various publications including being named in 2024 to Law Dragon's listing of the "500 Leading Family Lawyers" in the United States and Thompson Reuters' "Up-and-Coming 100" list for the State of Texas. In law school, I was, along with my student partner Jack Hales, the winner of the prestigious Strasburger & Price Moot Court Competition.

I have experience in a range of family law matters, including divorce, child custody and support, property division, marital agreements, some appeals, enforcements, and much more. But I also have a wide breadth of experience handling matters that are not usually litigated or that invoke obscure provisions of the Texas Family Code, so I am ready to help clients with any family law dispute.
