About Jim

Jim Gordon is the junior partner of Beers and Gordon P.A. The focus of his legal practice has been to represent individuals in matters of serious personal injury, wrongful death, and employment-related litigation. He is licensed to practice in all of Florida, including appeals courts and the middle district. He has appeared as a lead trial counselor in addition to drafting appellate matters in both State and Federal Courts. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1992, Jim worked as an Account Executive with an international marketing corporation. He then went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska Law College in 1997. Eventually moving away from his Midwestern roots, Jim and his family established a home in the Oviedo and Winter Springs area of Seminole County in Central Florida. His first legal position was with a small plaintiff’s practice in downtown Orlando, emphasizing cases that involved employment law. By 1999, he had joined a firm handling insurance defense matters ranging from serious personal injuries to wrongful death. During this time, Jim had the opportunity to work on cases including premises liability, car, and truck accidents, harassment and discrimination, products liability, negligent security, lemon laws, motor vehicle repair act cases, and a wide variety of other matters. In over nine years at this firm, Mr. Gordon represented international companies, hotel chains, shopping malls, construction companies, restaurants, and locally owned businesses. Establishing the law firm of Beers and Gordon P.A. with David Beers in 2009, Jim has been representing the rights of those injured and damaged by negligence for nearly 20 years. He continues to provide experience and compassion for every client.

Questions & Answers

How did you build a successful practice?

We focused on our clients and out everything into helping them achieve the best possible outcome. We work to find them the best doctors and other assistance while fighting for fair compensation for our clients. We did this while keeping the focus on running a practice with integrity.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

The client should look for someone he/she can trust. Without the trust between client and attorney, it is difficult to move forward on a case. The attorney should be interested in the client as a person and not a money making opportunity. The attorney should also be willing to work hard and fight for that client. The attorney should advise the client when an offer is not fair and explain why litigation will prove necessary.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

An attorney's knowledge of the court system and especially the particular judge is invaluable. Each judge has a little bit different way that they run hearings, trials, and the like, The attorney who knows the judge and adapts his approach to the judge allows for a better potential outcome for the client. In pre-suit cases, it is important to know the local doctors and other experts on both sides. Being able to expose the defense's hired expert is important.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Being able to meet new people and help guide people through difficult situations is rewarding. I like the opportunity to make a difference in people's lives, whether it is because they recovered because they received the best treatment possible or they could not recover from their injuries but received just compensation to allow them to move forward.

Are you involved in your community?

Our firm has been a very active member of the community since its inception. We have sponsored numerous events for charities, schools, churches, and other civic organizations. I have been on several charity boards, including being the longest serving chairperson of HOPE Helps during a time when the organization bought two buildings with a large capital campaign. I have been the president of the Oviedo Police Foundation for five years which provides additional support and training to local officers. I have also been involved in law related organizations and currently serve on the board for the Central Florida Trial Lawyers.
