Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I had a very difficult Social Security disability case this past year, and I was not sure the Judge would grant my client benefits. However, the Judge agreed that my client was disabled and unable to work, and granted her full benefits and full back pay. I know that made a huge difference in her life, because she got the back pay she needed to take care of bills that had gotten behind while she was off work, but she will also have a steady income for the rest of her life.

How did you build a successful practice?

Working hard for my clients and being there for them when they need me. Building relationships with other attorneys, court clerks, and Judges.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Someone who will give their case the dedication it deserves. Someone who is passionate about what they do.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Very important. Knowing how Courts and Judges prefer to have things done can make a huge difference for clients.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Information on the process their case will go through once in the system, the potential outcomes for the case, and my fees for the case.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

This varies based on the kind of case it is. For instance, in bankruptcy cases I need to gather information regarding income, debt, and assets to see what type of bankruptcy the client would qualify for. In family law cases, I need to know what kind of orders are already in place, if any, and some history of the family.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I am personable and flexible on my fees. I want everyone to have access to quality legal representation, regardless of their income.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Being able to help people through stressful parts of their lives.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Reading, writing, sports, and the outdoors.

Are you involved in your community?

Yes. I am the co-founding board member of The Sisterhood Initiative, a non-profit organization that helps make ends meet for women. I am also a member of the Muskegon Rotary Club, which is a service organization, and I do a lot of volunteer work through Rotary.
