About Joseph

Joey Morris was born in Dothan, Alabama and moved at a young age to Florida, where he graduated from Ft. Walton Beach High School. Upon graduation he attended the University of Alabama where he graduated with a BS in Finance. Joey then entered the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University where he graduated in 1994. While in law school Joey attended the University of Kent in Canterbury, England for a summer semester where he studied the European Common Market, and Comparative law of the United States and Great Britain under the direction of former appellate judge and Solicitor General of the United States, Ken Starr. In addition, Joey was the victor in the school wide Haley Federal Trial Competition and was later chosen to serve as the Director of the Cumberland Trial Advocacy Board. He was also listed in Who’s Who of American Law students.

After law school Joey practiced for a year as a defense attorney with the former Gadsden firm of Simmons, Brunson, Sasser and Callis, PC. He then continued his defense practice by moving to Dothan and joining the firm of Cobb and Shealy, P.C. where his practice concentrated in the areas of wrongful death, products liability and personal injury. In 1999 he left Cobb and Shealy, P.C. and co-founded what is today the law firm of Morris, Andrews, Talmadge & Driggers LLC, which is committed to exclusively representing individuals or businesses that have been injured or damaged by the conduct of another. Joey’s experience as a former insurance defense attorney has proved invaluable in assisting his clients when it comes to litigating and obtaining a fair recovery.

He has also served part time from 2007-2017 as a municipal court judge.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Mr. Morris represented a lady that was attacked in her hotel room by a employee of a national chain hotel. A settlement was reached after lengthy litigation that lead to a sizeable settlement for the client and resulted in the hotel changing its employee policies. Mr. Morris represented a passenger in a Florida case who was paralyzed from the chest down after the vehicle he was in was pulled into the path of a truck. A suit was filed against the truck driver who denied fault blaming the accident on the driver of the passenger's vehicle. During litigation Mr. Morris was able to show that the truck had been traveling too fast for the conditions and, in fact, was using his smart phone to determine his speed due to his speedometer being out of working order. If the truck driver had been driving the posted speed limit he could have avoided impact. The trucking company settled for a significant amount prior to trial.

How did you build a successful practice?

Building a successful law practice took a lot of hard work and time of achieving success for your clients. It was also important to remember to treat every case the same and give forth the same amount of effort on each one, small or large. As a result, past client's would come back to us or refer family and friends to us. In addition, other attorneys would also refer cases to us because of our success and they knew we had the financial ability to prosecute every case regardless of its expense.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

It is important to find an attorney who is experienced in the area for which you need help. In addition, you want an attorney that is not afraid to try your case if it needs to go to trial. Finally, you need an attorney that can afford to fund everything that needs to be done in your case. We never ask our client for any money to fund their case when we take it. In many cases the expenses of a complicated case will run into the six figures and you need an attorney who can afford to spend the money on your case so that your case is successful.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

We can, in most cases, fairly quickly determine from the facts we are given on the phone if there is a valid case worth pursuing for the client. However, there are times when we will need to do more investigation before we can evaluate the case and let the client know our opinion of whether it is worth pursing. The phone call is just the first step but an important one.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

As many facts as we can get of the accident and injury. Many times though the client will not have all the facts available at the time, which is ok. We can still get some of the basics from the client and gather the facts we need to evaluate the case.
