Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
We had a client come to us because he was being held personally liable for some trust fund taxes that had happened at a previous employer. He was going to have to pay $750,000. He had been working at a company and had told his former employer that he didn't have much experience accounting. They told him that they would train him and everything would be fine. While working, our client discovered that payroll taxes hadn't been paid. He told this to his employer who told him they didn't have the money to pay the taxes. We did everything we could to make it so our client wouldn't be held personally liable for those taxes. Through a lot of research and hard work, we found provisions in the tax code that proved that our client wasn't liable. When we presented this to the appeals officer she told our client that he would not be held liable. Our client was extremely relieved and we were glad we could help.
How did you build a successful practice?
We feel that the best way to build a successful legal practice is to produce quality work. When we can help a client with their legal problems at a fair price we hope, in turn, that they will think of us when a friend or family member has legal issues. When clients are happy with the work you produce as a firm they will trust you to take care of their family and friends.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should always look for an attorney that is competent, that listens to them, and that will put their interests first. Here at McCarty Larsen, we are dedicated to our clients and will listen to their concerns and make sure we fight to protect what they love.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is important in the success of many cases. The better we understand the background of the case, the easier it is for us to accomplish our goals. We are all very familiar with the area, so that has been a great benefit in many of our cases.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
With our free consultations, either in person or on the phone, we help prospective clients to gain a better understanding of where they stand legally, what their next steps should be, and how we can be the firm to most effectively help them take those steps.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
It is helpful when a client comes with specifics about their situation including any agreements or contracts they may have signed in relation to the issue, a timeline of the events, and any damage amount they may have suffered.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
At McCarty Larsen we offer quality legal work at a fair price. We understand that our clients are hardworking individuals and their money is important to them. We produce high quality legal work at a rate that everyone can be happy about.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of our job is fighting for our clients and finding a way to help them. Nothing feels better than when a client comes in, distraught, with a problem they can't handle alone and we can show them the steps they needs to take to protect what they love.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Other than law, there are many things that interest us. Many of us love spending time with our family, being in the outdoors, and are fluent in languages such as Spanish and Italian.
Are you involved in your community?
The staff at McCarty Larsen are involved in the community in a variety of ways. All members of our staff serve in some capacity in their community. Some serve in ecclesiastical positions in their local churches, one member is part of the International Center for Law and Religion Studies that fights for religious freedom throughout the world, and another volunteers at Puente, a nonprofit organization that helps Latino youth access higher education.
