About Larry
Mr. Lee was born in Aberdeen, Washington; and he was reared and educated in Seattle, Washington.
Mr. Lee began his higher education at Seattle University where he graduated from the Honors Program in 1972. During that time, he married, fathered two sons, and worked full time at various restaurants and hotels.
After graduation from Seattle University, he relocated to Anchorage, Alaska where he worked as a real estate broker. Mr. Lee found his real estate experience to be fascinating. He enjoyed listings, sales and/or leases involving businesses, condominium projects, investment properties, raw land, and subdivision developments. He pursued the designation of Certified Commercial Investment Member of the Realtor's National Marketing Institute, a designation issued by the National Association of Realtors. In that pursuit, he recognized that he wanted to become a lawyer. As a result, he entered the University of Denver, College of Law, then located at Colfax and Bannock in Denver, Colorado. He simultaneously worked as a real estate broker and later as an investigator for the Colorado Real Estate Commission. His duties at the CREC involved investigations, report writing and testifying.
During his last year at law school in 1982, Mr. Lee obtained employment as a Courtroom Clerk-Deputy in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, where he worked in the Honorable Jim R. Carrigan's courtroom for eighteen months. It was during that courtroom work that he recognized that trial work was his calling.
After he passed the Washington State Bar and the Colorado State Bar in 1983, he began employment at the law firm of Branney, Hillyard, Ewing and Barnes, then a premier personal injury firm representing injured persons across Colorado and Southern Wyoming. He continued his career with Branney, Hillyard, Ewing and Barnes, becoming a partner in 1985. He continued to work with the firm, now known as Branney, Hillyard, Kudla & Lee until 1990 when he, together with Steven H. Cook, Esq. formed the law firm of Cook and Lee, P.C. Mr. Lee worked at Cook and Lee, P.C. for ten years, and the firm grew to five lawyers. In 2000, he formed his own firm, Larry D. Lee, P.C., also located in Boulder, Colorado.
In Mr. Lee's thirty years as an attorney in Colorado, he has represented more than 1500 persons injured in automobile collisions, by defective products, through medical malpractice, in slip/trip fall downs, by lawyer malpractice and in worker's compensation matters. He has tried various cases to jury verdict, including cases involving medical, dental or legal malpractice; cases involving insurance disputes (whether personal injury protection benefits, bad faith, or otherwise); automobile collisions; small commercial matters; and more. He has also tried cases before the administrative law judges in the Division of Worker's Compensation. He has served as a testifying expert or a consultant in the fields of insurance, legal malpractice, attorney's fees and other matters.
Mr. Lee has prepared, settled or tried significant cases yielding seven figure results. His current interests include the development of trial transforming techniques. His goal is to assist injured people to obtain justice.
He has been recognized by his peers as an outstanding attorney. Mr. Lee is the only lawyer in the State of Colorado whose credentials include all of the following:
- AV rating by Martindale Hubble (the highest peer review rating available)
- Graduate National Institute of Trial Advocacy National Program (1985)
- Board Certified Civil Trial Advocate by National Board of Trial Advocacy (1996, 2001, 2006)
- Diplomate of National College of Advocacy (American Association for Justice (AAJ)) (1998)
- Graduate Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College, Dubois, Wyoming (2003)
- Graduate Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College, Dubois, Wyoming Graduate Program (2004, 2006)
- Colorado Super Lawyer 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013
Mr. Lee has spoken at the request of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) in six different states, at their annual and mid-winter conventions, and at many Continuing Legal Education Seminars. He has been the creator or chair of many committees and Continuing Legal Education programs sponsored by the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. Indeed, he founded the annual Blockbuster Auto Seminar which has become the single largest CLE program, outside of the annual convention, for the benefit of CTLA.
During his career in Colorado, Mr. Lee has been a member of the Denver, Boulder, Arapahoe and Colorado Bar Associations; the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association; and the American Association for Justice (AAJ).
