About Laura
Laura represents federal and private sector employees in all areas of employment law including discrimination based on race, age, gender, disability, and use of Family and Medical Leave Act leave. She handles wrongful termination and disciplinary matters, unemployment cases, and sexual harassment cases. She is admitted to practice in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and New York, and also appears before state and administrative agencies such as the DC Office of Human Rights and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Laura joined the firm in 2013 as an experienced litigator. After graduating from Georgetown Law, she began her career as a public defender in New York City, where she won acquittals in jury trials and won suppression of unconstitutionally obtained evidence at numerous hearings. Laura then continued her litigation practice at a Manhattan white-collar crime and general litigation firm before moving to Syracuse, New York, where she practiced civil litigation and family law. While practicing in upstate New York, Laura frequently conducted hearings and trials on behalf of her clients. When she returned to the DC area, she brought her passion for justice to Alan Lescht & Associates, P.C., advocating vigorously for our clients.
Laura enjoys employing her experience in criminal defense work when defending clients accused of misconduct by their employers and those facing possible disciplinary measures or termination. She is most proud of her work in cases in which she successfully defended physicians facing termination of their employment due to false or unfair allegations of misconduct and/or poor patient care. Laura is prepared to zealously represent clients and litigate cases through hearings when necessary, but she also draws upon her previous experience in civil ligation and family law to help clients reach favorable settlement agreements through mediation or direct negotiation with employers. Laura appreciates that settlement often results in positive resolutions, in less time, and at less expense to clients than protracted litigation, and she recognizes that each of her clients is unique with distinct circumstances, priorities, and needs. She strives to treat each client and case accordingly so that the best possible result can be obtained for them, as individuals.
