Lisa Lebowitz has been a litigator in New York for over fifteen years and joined N.W. Bernstein & Associates, LLC in 1998.

Litigation Experience

Prior to joining N.W. Bernstein & Associates, LLC, Ms. Lebowitz worked at several New York City law firms handling a variety of litigation matters involving, among other things, contractual disputes, secured transactions, banking matters and mortgage foreclosures. In addition, Ms. Lebowitz was an integral part of a team defending major multi-national product liability litigations. She trained and supervised a staff of over a dozen junior attorneys and support personnel.

At N.W. Bernstein & Associates, LLC, Ms. Lebowitz has handled an assortment of Litigation matters including defending multi-party toxic tort litigations, including lead inhalation cases, and other environmental related injuries for a major insurance company in various New York State courts. She has been involved in all aspects of the cases including preparing and responding to pleadings, preparing and responding to all discovery demands, brief writing, conducting depositions, attending court conferences and developing litigation strategies. She has successfully negotiated case settlements and prepared and won summary judgment motions for the firm's clients.

Ms. Lebowitz's litigation skills are applied in the Federal Courts as well. She recently coauthored a major brief in the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on behalf of client companies contesting the addition of a New Jersey site on the National Priorities List.

Environmental Law Experience

Ms. Lebowitz also provides legal support on several Superfund sites nationwide. Her work involves extensive analysis of consent decrees and trust agreements and she drafts contracts for remedial work to be performed at the sites. Additionally, she researches legal topics to counsel clients with sensitive environmental issues. She has prepared applications for firm clients' entry into New York's Voluntary Cleanup Program and has become familiar with New York's new Brownfield Cleanup Program.

Ms. Lebowitz received a B.A. in Economics, cum laude, from Barnard College and received her Juris Doctorate in 1990 from New York University Law School.
