Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I represented a client who was charged with a felony assault. He was not a permanent resident and was looking at being deported if convicted. We had an excellent case of self defense, however the county attorney would not budge on the felony charge. We stuck to our guns and set the matter for trial. On the day of trial, the county attorney dismissed the case.

How did you build a successful practice?

By earning the respect of judge, prosecutors and clients. I truly fight for my clients. If a case needs to go to trial because the State is being unreasonable, then that is what will happen.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Experience and reputation are huge factors to consider. Clients need a lawyer that listens to them and is available to talk when they need to.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Huge. If you don't know the local judges and prosecutors you have a high likelihood of getting the cold shoulder. I like the fact that I grew up on a farm in western Minnesota. I always bring that up when I'm handling a case in the rural areas of Minnesota.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I provide all information a potential client wants. Knowledge is power.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

As much information as possible. Charge, county/city, prior record, facts of the case.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I fight for my clients and prosecutors know that! Further, as a former prosecutor so I am able to view a case from both sides and use that to my clients advantage.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Seeing the relief on the faces of my clients when their case is successfully resolved.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Outdoor activities, former arctic cat factory sponsored snowmobile racer.
