About Michael
Michael E. Lavelle is a senior partner at Lavelle Law Group, LLC. Mr. Lavelle maintains a broad general practice with concentrations in constitutional, governmental, election and tort law. Approximately fifty percent of his practice is litigation at the administrative, trial and appellate levels.
Mr. Lavelle's governmental background includes service as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Illinois State Board of Elections, and Chairman of the Board of Election Commissioners for the City of Chicago. His concentration on election law represents approximately twenty percent of his law practice. For the balance of his practice, Mr. Lavelle handles litigation and transactional work in a wide variety of practice areas, including commercial, real estate, business acquisition and employment law.
Mr. Lavelle has written and lectured on numerous election related subjects, including voter behavior, ballot positioning, voting integrity, state and federal campaign financing, election contests, administrative review of electoral boards and integrity audits of computerized voting systems. He has researched and written articles published and delivered before sections of national societies such as the American Political Science Association, and various associations of election officials. Mr. Lavelle has also served as a consultant to the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Law and the Electoral Process, and to political parties, public officials and candidates for office with regard to all aspects of the election process. He has authored election law chapters on campaign financing, election contests and judicial review of electoral board decisions for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education in its Election Law publications, and he is a past chairman of the Chicago Bar Association Committee on Election Law.
Mr. Lavelle, who attended Loyola University, Chicago, and The John Marshall Law School, Chicago, has received the highest Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating, AV, for Ethical Standards and for Legal Ability.
