About Michael

Mr. Rauworth has been in practice since 1986.  His experience runs the gamut of civil litigation with extensive experience in surety, construction and business tort practice, with special focus in admiralty and maritime work.  He has represented clients across the spectrum on maritime issues, including major domestic and international marine underwriters, banks, stevedores, repair firms, petroleum importers, shipping lines, and prosecutor's office for a major New England state, not to mention small businesses and individuals.

Before starting work as a lawyer, Mr. Rauworth had a career of over a dozen years in the maritime industry, both as an officer in the Coast Guard and as a deck officer of commercial ships.  He has been to sea as master of eight vessels and has served as an officer on virtually every type of ship (more than twenty in all), trading to most parts of the world. He holds the highest license attainable by an American seagoing officer: Master of sail, steam or motor vessels of any tonnage, on any waters of the world, and he is federally licensed as a pilot on certain waters of the states of Hawaii, Washington, Alaska.

During his service as a Captain in the Coast Guard Reserve, he was specially recalled to active duty as the Harbor Defense Commander in the Uphold Democracy operations, in which he took charge of the military security and maritime safety in Haiti's principal ports.  He is experienced with virtually every aspect of Coast Guard operations, and commanded seven military reserve units.
