About Michael
Michael M. Shultz has over twenty years of experience in virtually every area of employment law. He has worked with dozens of employees from all across the state of Kansas. After graduating first in his class at the University of Utah College of Law, Mike began his legal practice in Denver, Colorado, where he worked on labor and employment law matters. He moved to the Kansas City area in 1986 to been teaching at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. During his six years at UMKC, Mike taught civil rights litigation, constitutional law, federal jurisdiction, state and local government law and a number of other classes.
Before opening his own law firm, Mike worked at the Johnson County, Kansas, legal department. Mike was responsible for providing legal advice with respect to the County's more than 3,000 employees. Mike left the County when he decided that he wanted to use his legal training and experience to protect the rights of Kansas employees.
Throughout his career, Mike has been a leader in the areas of law in which he has practiced. Mike has given more than 30 speeches on legal topics to audiences throughout the country. In addition, he has published more than 40 legal articles in local, regional, and national publications. Mike has provided pro bono legal services to a variety of groups in Colorado and Kansas, earning a special recognition award from the Kansas Association for Rehabilitation Facilities (now known as InterHab). While in Colorado, Mike also earned a special merit award for his high ethical standards.
Mike has extensive experience with the Kansas Human Rights Commission, the Kansas Department of Labor and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, as well as with state and federal courts. He is a zealous advocate for his clients and is dedicated to providing them with the highest quality of legal services.
