Ian was born on a public holiday- Veteran’s Day, November 11, 1977 in Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, New York to loving parents, Wendy and Warren who went on to have another son Jason, who is a successful Cantor in Northern Virginia. Since Veteran’s Day was a public holiday, Ian enjoyed public school closures throughout his early years and has extended that tradition into his Firm, making Veteran’s Day his Firm’s first recognized holiday. Ian learned from his early years. That fighting through physical altercation or violence was unacceptable. Rather, Ian fought through using his words, for words yielded an insurmountable amount of power which violence could never achieve. Underneath Ian’s sarcastic, strong and serious exterior is a thoughtful and compassionate man who vigorously fights for those who find themselves incapable of using words, or articulating messages in furtherance of their cause or in their defense. For Ian, there is no separation between personal and professional life as an attorney’s job is a 24/7 undertaking. You can always expect from Ian an insightful and razor-sharp approach to any obstacle preventing a path forward. Particularly sensitive to the needs and unique attributes of minority populations, it is always better to have Ian on your side than against. For to those who perpetrate discrimination, victimization and marginalization against the less powerful, less funded, and less connected, Ian ensures a complete exhaustion of his efforts. Never being intimidated by the amount of money or resources an adversary may possess, if Ian believes his cause is worth pursuing, or that his voice must be heard, little or nothing gets in his way. The battle will be long over before Ian gets off the field. Call Ian up, get to know the guy. Let him stand up for you, if you cannot stand up for yourself.

I have been practicing law for over 25 years, representing individuals and small business owners in New York City and Long Island, with the legal issues that arise in their everyday business or personal life. For business owners, I act as a general business advisor, help form new businesses, review and negotiate contracts, including operating agreements, vendor agreements, independent contractor agreements, and commercial leases. I also teach clients how to avoid disputes by showing them what to do to ensure that they get paid at the end of a deal, how to protect themselves against liability and how to operate their businesses efficiently. In the event a dispute does arise, I work with business partners to assist them in resolving disputes among themselves or with companies they do business with, including representing companies in litigation against customers for unpaid bills or breached agreements. In addition, I have experience with other types of litigation, including construction and real estate contract litigation. I started my firm, the Law Office of Michael A. Kofsky, PLLC, in November 2008, after having worked at law firms both large and small in New York City. At Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, and Flom, LLP, I gained experience working with businesses, reviewing and analyzing business and real estate contracts and operating agreements to identify potential liabilities and compliance issues, and help manage risk. I also examined organizational structures and operating revenues and worked on joint ventures and other transactions. After leaving Skadden, I worked at several small boutique law firms at which I gained experience interacting with clients on a personal level in order to fully understand their needs and accomplish their goals. Thereafter, I took the best parts of my Manhattan experience and created my own firm to be closer to my family and to give back to the Long Island community. I am a lifelong New Yorker, born and raised in Manhattan and now living on Long Island. I graduated with honors from Brooklyn Law School and Boston University. I am an avid sports fan and am devoted to my family, including my two young daughters.

Mr. Aspromonte is the managing partner of Dansker & Aspromonte. He is a native New Yorker and the son of second generation Italian immigrants. By the age of 16, he had lost both parents and entered the work force. While attending high school and college, he supported himself by working at a large retail pharmacy where he quickly rose to a managerial position. He graduated from Bernard M. Baruch College in 1974 with a Bachelor in Business Administration and in 1979, obtained his Juris Doctor at Brooklyn Law School, where he formed the Italian-American Law Students Association. He also secured a clerkship as legal assistant to the warden at the Brooklyn House of Detention for Men. After he was admitted to the bar, Mr. Aspromonte opened his first law office and concentrated in civil and criminal litigation. He subsequently limited his practice to personal injury and medical malpractice. In 1989, he merged his practice with Paul Dansker and formed Dansker & Aspromonte. Throughout his career, Mr. Aspromonte has tried many cases and negotiated millions of dollars in settlements. He gained notoriety in several cases, most notably in the case of Wan v. Rochester University Medical Center involving a young college student who died during a routine clinical research trial. Mr. Aspromonte credits his successes to the work ethic he learned at a very young age. He prides himself on being completely self-made. “Luck has nothing to do with it,” he proudly says. “Everything I’ve achieved was accomplished through hard work and determination.” And that work ethic is reflected in every aspect of the practice. He takes nothing for granted, and the standard of hard work and determination he set still provides the cornerstone for the effort that goes into every case accepted by the firm. Today, Mr. Aspromonte serves as president of the Congress of Italian Americans Organization (CIAO), which provides social services to individuals who are disadvantaged. He is a founder and board member of Community Understanding for Racial and Ethnic Equality (CURE), which brings diverse ethnic, religious and civic leaders together to promote harmony and to resolve disputes. He is a founding member of the New Era Democrats (NED), a political action group that supports qualified candidates regardless of party affiliation, and he serves on the board of the Ralph J. Sansone Foundation, a philanthropic organization that raises money and awards scholarships to deserving students in financial need.
