Viral Mehta has called Charlotte his home for over 30 years. He attended and graduated from Charlotte-Mecklenburg public schools. He then graduated from nearby Davidson College with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Mr. Mehta obtained his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law and then returned home to Charlotte to begin his legal practice. Mr. Mehta spent the first decade of his legal career defending employers and large insurance companies in workers’ compensation claims. Mr. Mehta developed expertise in workers’ compensation law, but he felt a lack of fulfillment in representing insurance companies against injured workers. Mr. Mehta began representing injured workers when he founded the workers’ compensation practice group at a local law firm. Mr. Mehta then co-founded Mehta & McConnell PLLC. Mr. Mehta’s previous experience representing insurance companies gave him the insight necessary to effectively represent injured workers. He knows how insurance companies and adjusters handle workers’ compensation claims. Mr. Mehta is a North Carolina State Bar board-certified specialist in workers’ compensation law. He has obtained favorable decisions before all levels of the North Carolina Industrial Commission, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court. Viral Mehta was a contributing author of the 2017 edition of the North Carolina Workers’ Compensation LexisNexis Practice Guide, and he was selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Mr. Mehta is certified by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission as a Superior Court mediator. He enjoys mediating cases, especially workers’ compensation claims. Andrew R. Dempster Jr. "Drew" is a second generation attorney. Drew grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina where he graduated from Pine Forest High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Methodist University and his Law degree from North Carolina Central School of Law. Before joining the Smith Dickey Dempster Law Firm, Drew was an Assistant District Attorney in Cumberland County, North Carolina.

Earl Taylor grew up on a family farm near Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill in 1986. Shawn Howard earned his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of North Carolina, graduating with honors. He represents North Carolinians throughout the state who have been seriously injured due to another person’s negligence or intentional wrongdoing. R. Steve Bowden grew up in Liberty, North Carolina, a product of the public schools. He was the first in his family to get a secondary degree. He attended Wake Forest University on an athletic scholarship. There he lettered in football, was named to the All ACC team in 1971 and played on Wake’s first conference championship football team. At Wake Forest, Steve met Carlyn Jeffries (a native of Burlington, NC) who he married in 1974; they have two daughters, Lori and Jennifer. After Steve's graduation from WFU, he taught school for two years at the Forsyth County Public Schools. Thereafter, he went to the Norman Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University. He graduated as a member of the law school’s first class. Steve is in private practice (R. Steve Bowden & Associates, PC) handling civil litigation. His primary areas of practice are Personal Injury and Workers’ Compensation. Steve’s wife, Carlyn, is a two-time graduate of Wake Forest with a BA degree and an MBA. She currently manages the law firm. His daughter, Jennifer, is an attorney in practice with R. Steve Bowden & Associates. She graduated from the Elon School of Law. His daughter, Lori earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School and is currently employed by Ross Dress For Less in New York City.

Chris grew up in Maryland and attended high school in Norfolk, Virginia. From 1982 to 1987 he attended and then was graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana with a B.S. degree. He attended the University of Dayton School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1991. Mr. Kessler was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in 1992. Chris has two daughters. Chris and has family attend Covenant Church in Winterville, North Carolina. Chris is a Christian and he serves the Lord, in part, by offering free Bibles to anyone who asks. For years, Mr. Kessler has been keeping English and Spanish printed Bibles in his lobby - free to everyone. He started his career as an attorney in 1992 working with Harold F. Greeson in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 1995 he moved to Tarboro, North Carolina to practice with Jimmie R. Keel. During his time in Tarboro, the law firm changed to Keel, Kessler & O’Malley, LLP. Chris worked in Tarboro until the end of 2000 when he opened his own law practice in Greenville, The Kessler Law Firm, PLLC. In 1992, he was admitted in the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, and 2006 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. He has settled cases involving the MDL 926 Breast Implant Litigation, Medical Malpractice involving a HIV infected organ transplant, and corporate and private airplane crash cases, all in the early 1990s; Medical Malpractice involving Methotrexate use with psoriasis resulting in settlement in 1995; Medical Malpractice resulting in quadriplegia - a seven figure pretrial settlement against one defendant and a seven figure settlement against another defendant after a three week jury trial in 2000; numerous Greyhound Bus wrecks with multiple clients requiring depositions all over the United States and numerous settlements and a jury verdict between 2000-2013; On the job farming injury causing quadriplegia and resulting in a seven figure settlement in 2015; Product Liability Tire Failure and Failure to Register Tires resulting in multiple injuries and a death, resolved by settlement for seven figures against the Tire Dealer and seven figures against the Tire Manufacturer in 2015; Actos Class Action participation resulting in a settlement in 2015. In 2020, Mr. Kessler obtained a seven figure pre-suit mediation settlement in a wrongful death case where the “black box” data revealed the decedent was speeding; that is, he was contributorily negligent (which usually bars a recovery). He has been a Class Plaintiff co-counsel in numerous cases throughout the United States. He has actively participated in hundreds of depositions and has litigated and/or conducted depositions in approximately 30 states in the United States during his legal career.
