Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
In an incapacitated elderly woman's Last Will and Testament, she leaves her estate to a son, who is dying from cancer, and a charity as a residuary beneficiary. The son's girlfriend calls me in while being pregnant for assistance, while her boyfriend is dying on a hospital bed at Mount Sinai Hospital. Through a revocable trust, which her son is able to sign since he had a durable power of attorney from his mother when she was in good condition, he is able to have his girlfriend inherit their home. Her son had a love affair with his girlfriend for about fifteen years, but was unable to marry her due to them being of different colors of skin. I was able to create a guardianship for the mother and have his girlfriend take care of the mother in the condition she was in and have her hire live-in aides for his mother. So, since her son had died, his mother was still able to be cared for in the condition she was used to living in due to the guardianship I created, and the girlfriend acting as the guardian. I also made the son's girlfriend the trustee and helped her communicate with the mother's brokerage company to handle the her securities and all of the property matters for the home.
