Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Last year I handled a medical malpractice case for a college basketball player whose wrist fracture went undiagnosed at an urgent care. As a result, there was a delay in healing and an unnecessarily complicated surgery. The six figure settlement helped the client back on his feet with college expenses and moving on into a new career.

How did you build a successful practice?

My current practice was built on my reputation as a very experienced trial lawyer, and my commitment to candor with my clients. I have always been known as a "straight-shooter" by both clients and opposing counsel alike. The credibility I enjoy now usually translates into favorable results for my clients, in just about every area of practice.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Any client looking for an injury attorney to represent them should first look for the kind of experience that will help with the handling of their case. Those attorneys with specialized experience in the handling of personal injury cases are likely the best choice. There is no substitute for experience. Beyond that, most prospective clients should want an attorney who is going to personally handle their case, without handing it off to staff members with little or no experience in the courtroom.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

No doubt that cases handled by an attorney with vast experience in a particular courthouse are likely to find their lawyer has the insight to measure the chance for success more easily than someone else. For example, a lawyer who has personally appeared before the judge or judges who will be assigned to a particular case will probably know what kind of impact the judge might have on the outcome. Not all judges handle injury cases in the same manner, and the difference can affect the outcome for the better or for the worse. Beyond this, some jury pools in one county might view injury cases differently than those potential jurors in the next county. An experienced injury attorney will know this.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Generally, my office can offer an initial consultation that will allow the potential client to decide whether their case likely has merit and whether they want to schedule a face-to-face meeting. It is not uncommon to be able to offer clients an informed opinion as to the likelihood of success. All consultations are with an attorney who has over 23 years of experience.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Ordinarily, the basic facts and circumstances surrounding the accident or injury must be personally known by the caller. This includes the date, time and location of the event as well as the caller's impression of why they think they have a case. The better the details, the greater the likelihood an opinion can be offered as to the potential merit of the case.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

After more than two decades in practice handling personal injury matters, I have the kind of knowledge and insight that separates my office from the rest. I pride myself on being very candid with my clients which allows them to make better decisions about their case. These two factors are largely responsible for the success of the practice and the fact that a large percentage of my cases come by way of referral from current and past clients.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

There is little doubt the most rewarding aspect of my practice is seeing clients get back on their feet after an injury or other tragedy has happened in their life. I have had clients who have changed their lives drastically after finally resolving their case and putting a bad experience behind them.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Beyond practicing law, I am a bit of a ""weekend warrior"" who likes to run and participate in sports. I have four children and one grandchild who all keep me very active.

Are you involved in your community?

I have lived and worked in Orange County for more than 25 years and have raised a family here. As a family, we have been educated here, participated in organized sports and we try to commit or patronage to local businesses as much as possible.
