About Paula
Paula Athas Vlahakos, associate, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science/Criminal Justice from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. After marrying a native-Houstonian and moving to Houston, Paula received a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Houston. Paula then went on to receive her Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law.
As a law student, Paula wrote for South Texas Law Review, and was honored with the Robert R. Duvall Award for Best Article on Family Law from South Texas Law Review in 1998. In law school Paula also served as a judicial intern for a United States District Court Judge and for a Harris County Family District Court Judge. Paula was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1999 and had previously served as the legislative coordinator for a major corporation in Houston and as community outreach coordinator for The Children's Assessment Center/Harris County Children's Protective Services.
As a result of her background and her experience as a wife and a mother of three daughters, Paula enjoys working with the issues presented by today's family law matters. She is the co-author of several continuing legal education materials for the State Bar of Texas, is a member of the Family Law Sections of the State Bar of Texas and the Houston Bar Association and a member of the Association of Women Attorneys and the Texas Young Lawyers' Association.
In addition to the practice of law, Paula's life is devoted to her family and to the community. She is an active member of the Greek-Orthodox Church community and devotes much of her time to serving in local civic organizations.
