About Rachel
During law school, Rachel interned with Britt Weygandt, Chief Counsel to Colorado Governor Bill Owens, and the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Castle Rock, CO. Following law school, Rachel worked as an associate in the firm Bergner & Pearman, LLP, and later at the Pearman Law Firm and L. Frank Bergner and Associates. During that time, she handled many cases in the areas of family law, contract law, administrative law, civil law, estate planning, and probate. From 2007-2011, Rachel served as a law clerk to Judge David M. Furman and Judge JoAnn L. Vogt at the Colorado Court of Appeals, researching and preparing proposed opinions in all areas of the law under the Court’s jurisdiction. After relocating to Nebraska in 2011, Rachel began working with Van Horn Family Law drafting appellate, trial briefs, and other pleadings.
Rachel has been married to her high school best friend, David for twenty years, and together they have two children. Rachel is currently involved full-time in homeschooling their children, while providing services through Van Horn Family Law on a part-time basis.
Rachel loves music. She plays multiple instruments including guitar, viola, violin, flute, and piano. Over the years, she has enjoyed sharing her musical abilities through tutoring music theory in college and teaching lessons on violin and viola, performing in orchestras, choirs, and chamber groups, and serving in the choir and worship team at church. She taught Introduction to Music and directed the Master Works Chorus, a community/faculty/student choir, at New Mexico State University in Grants, NM.
Rachel regularly volunteers to teach Sunday school for various ages, including preschool, elementary, and middle school at church. Before and during law school, she served as summer counselor (1995-1997), director-in-training (1998-2000), division director (2004), and summer camp director (2001-2002) at Colorado Camp Cherith, an all-girls Christian summer camping program, and held various positions on the board. She also served on the boards of Colorado Family Services (2004-2006) and Christian Legal Society of Metro Denver (2003-2009).
