Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I was the only attorney to secure a not guilty verdict in a seven defendant RICO gang prosecution of the MS13 in federal court. Not only did my client get out of federal custody where he had been for three years, but I secured his release from immigration custody, found him housing, counseling and employment. Recently I proved that a police officer lied in obtaining a search warrant. All charges were dismissed. Also, recently I convinced the U.S.Attorney's Office in Tampa, Florida that my client in Northern California was not involved in a marajuna distribution ring operating from Redding, CA. I also had vehicluar charges dismissed against a nurse whose passenger was killed in an auto accient. Then I had her criminal record sealed.
How did you build a successful practice?
I have built a successful practice by being responsive to each of my clients and caring about their well-being and obtaining a successful result in their case.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should not fall for a "fast sale". They should like the client, ask about their track record and feel comfortable with them.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is important but with my years of experience I can successfully handle cases in all courts nationally and in this state.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I want to know where a case is (what court); the status of the case (first appearance?) is the client in/out of custody; any record and can they afford legal representation.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I have extensive federal and state experience. I can successfully try case and I also know the ""art of negotiation"". Prosecutors respect and like me as a person. I stay in constant contact with clients during their case, while they may be in prison or on probation and thereafter. Many of my clients are my friends.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect is helping people who unfortunately find themselves in bad situations.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I am athletic and enjoy jogging and reading.
Are you involved in your community?
I am a member of the American Jewish Committee and active on their Board of Governors. I am also on the Federal Rules and Practice Committee for U.S. District Court and on the Executive Committee for Criminal Practice of the SF Bar Association. I am also a member of several criminal law organizations. I was on the Board of Governors of California Attorneys for Criminal Justice for over 20 years and organized all of their legal seminars for that period.
