Since 1981, Ms. West has lived in South Carolina. After attending public schools in Lexington County, Ms. West pursued an undergraduate degree in history at Lander University. She graduated with honors and was a published author in the area of South Carolina progression-era history. Ms. West enrolled at the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1997 and began her training as a trial lawyer. After completing two years of study at the University of Mississippi, Ms. West received visiting student status at the University of South Carolina School of Law. Since 2004, Ms. West has practiced primarily in the South Carolina Family Court. She practices in counties state-wide and has extensive experience in litigation and negotiation. Her practice has included litigation in the areas of child custody, division of assets and debts, and alimony. She is well versed in issues related to modification of prior court orders regarding children and support. Ms. West has represented parties in family court appeals dealing with complex cross-state jurisdictional issues. In addition to her private practice, she regularly represents clients and children in Department of Social Services (DSS) cases in Lexington, Richland and Charleston counties. In July 2009, Ms. West joined the Law Office of Richard J. Breibart, LLC, as the leader of the family court litigation department. She practices solely in the South Carolina Family Court. Ms. West has extensive experience in complex family court litigation including custody, property division and Department of Social Service (DSS) matters. She has a particular interest in cases that include psychiatric issues. Ms. West has lectured at various Legal Education seminars, including, "What is your Expert Giving You?" Deposing Psychiatric and Psychological Professionals; Children's Issues in Family Court (CLE March 2007); An Optimal View of 2005 (CLE December 2005), and she has also authored the Legal and Historical Analysis of the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Act (University of Texas at Arlington, 1997). In addition to her practice in the Family Court, ms. West is also a Certified Family Court Mediator and offers mediation services both privately and through Richland and Lexington counties.
