About Richard

Criminal allegations of any kind carry with them the potential to be life-changing; however, as overwhelming and frightening as your charges may be, you may not be penalized until you have been found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. As one of the premier criminal litigators in Westchester, Richard A. Portale of the Law Offices of Richard A. Portale, P.C., will tirelessly defend your rights through each and every stage of the legal process and help you manage any damage your charges have done to your professional and private lives.

More critically though, Mr. Portale will work closely with you to develop a comprehensive legal strategy that challenges each and every aspect of the charges brought against you in an effort to reduce and, ideally, altogether eliminate the charges you are facing. At the Law Offices of Richard A. Portale, P.C., our legal team understands what you’re going through, and we’ll do everything we possibly can to get you through this.

As a former ADA for the Westchester County’s DA Office, Richard A. Portale has experience with the criminal litigation process from both sides of the aisle. After being educated at the University of Buffalo, where he earned his BA, and John Marshall Law School, where he earned his JD, Mr. Portale served as an ADA to the Westchester County’s DA Office for five years. As an ADA, he quickly climbed the ranks. After starting out in Motions and Appeals, Mr. Portale moved on to the Grand Jury and, ultimately, to Gangs and Narcotics. As a prosecutor, Mr. Portale successfully secured convictions in all but one of the cases he tried.

Following his service with Duffy, Duffy & Burdo—one of the most successful plaintiff’s medical malpractice firms in the country—Richard Portale established his own criminal defense practice. Since the Law Offices of Richard A. Portale, P.C.’s inception, Mr. Portale has been taking on and winning cases that others may think impossible.

Over the last 15 years, Richard Portale has represented dozens of defendants to verdict and has only been unsuccessful in five cases. Mr. Portale is a member of the Bar of New York State and the United States Federal District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He is also a member of the prestigious New York State Defenders Association and the National College for DUI Defense.
