About Robert
Bob Davidson is Of Counsel to Kennedy & Graven, Chartered. He practices in the areas of Land Use and Real Estate Law.
He earned a B.S.L. degree in 1955 and an L.L.B. in 1957, both of which were from the University of Minnesota. Upon graduation, Bob clerked for the Hennepin County District Court Judges for one year. He then began practicing law with the firm of Henretta, Muirhead, Oberg & Davidson. In 1964, he started the firm, Davidson, Herman & Maurer, where he practiced for three years. From 1967 to 1968, he joined the firm of Gray, Plant, Mooty, Mooty & Bennett and, from 1968 until 1972, he was a shareholder, General Counsel, and Vice President of Pemtom, Inc. In addition, Bob also practiced with the firm of Broeker & Bachman from 1972 until 1975, and thereafter directed the real estate department at Doherty, Rumble, and Butler from 1975 to 1983. He joined the predecessor firm to Kennedy & Graven in 1983.
Bob brings a wide range of business experience to his practice in real estate development law. He is experienced in matters regarding acquisition of land; structuring development entities; zoning; permitting, planning, and contracting with architects, engineers, and contractors; and financing with banks and governmental agencies. He also advises on issues of taxation and securities as they relate to real estate transactions.
In addition to practicing law, Bob is active in the business community. He has developed Roys Point Marina, Apostle Islands Golf Course, and other residential communities in Bayfield, Wisconsin, along with residential condominiums, apartments, office buildings, and commercial buildings in Minnesota, Florida, Wisconsin, Arizona, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Bob also was the owner of Mill Farms Company for nine years, which was ranked as the fourth largest turkey grower in the U.S.
Bob has this to say about his practice:
- Many attorneys are theoretical, but when you develop your own projects, you experience the risks and wilds of the business world. You develop a pragmatic outlook and find it hard to separate business aspects from the legal aspects. And when you work with clients, you speak their language, which translates into expeditious and superior results.
