About Robert

Robert J. Hommel served in the United States Navy as an enlisted man from 1974 through 1980.  He graduated from Adams State College in Colorado in 1979, and law school at the University of Denver in 1983.  In law school, he won the American Juris Prudence Award for excellent achievement in the study of constitutional law, and was a Harold Widney Scholar.

He was admitted to the State Bar of Colorado in 1983, the Federal District for Colorado in '83, the State Bar of Arizona, and the Federal District of Arizona in '84.  He is currently a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Maricopa County Bar Association, the Scottsdale Bar Association, the State Bar of Arizona Workers' Compensation Section, and has been certified as a specialist in Workers' Compensation by the State Bar of Arizona.  Mr. Hommel is also a member of the American Association for Justice, and their insurance law section and the bad faith group, as well as the Arizona Trial Lawyers' Association. He is on the board of directors for the Scottsdale Bar Association, and a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.   

For over 20 years, Mr. Hommel has represented clients with various insurance related problems.  For over 12 years, he represented insurance companies.  He also represented the State of Arizona Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Fund, the government entity that pays claims for insolvent insurers.  He has litigated jury trials to successful verdicts for his clients in claims involving motor vehicle negligence, product liability, Section 1983 Civil Rights, and insurance bad faith.

Mr. Hommel has been a presenter at the Industrial Commission of Arizona's Annual Worker's Compensation Seminar for Claim Adjusters, and at seminars sponsored by the AWCCA (Arizona Worker's Compensation Claims Association), and has taught workers' compensation seminars sponsored by private companies.  He has litigated workers' compensation bad faith claims to six and seven figure verdicts.

For community activities, he is a Board Member, and former Vice Chairman of Southwest Leadership Foundation (a faith based organization providing services and assistance to the underserved in Maricopa County that was started and is chaired by Jerry Colangelo and Rev. Bill Star), and is a Board Member of Partners in Action (an organization supporting orphanages internationally, but primarily in Mexico and Africa).  He is married with four children.
