About Robert
Robert Kouts is a partner in Scheinthal & Kouts, LLP who practices primarily in the areas of real estate, business and commercial law and collections. He is a native Houstonion who has been practicing law since 1988 after attending the University of Houston Law Center.
While in law school, Mr. Kouts initiated and worked in a legal internship program with the U.S. Customs Service. Also during law school and in his early legal career, he gained exposure to a wide range of practice areas in a small firm atmosphere, including commercial litigation, immigration, real estate, family law, appellate law, personal injury (both plaintiff and defense), estate planning and probate.
Over the years, Mr. Kouts has kept his preference for a small firm atmosphere, while his areas of practice have become focused primarily in the areas of real estate, business law and collections, and he devotes approximately 50% of his time to transactional work and 50% to litigation. His background and experience in a variety of practice areas is of great benefit in both the development and the execution of strategies to solve the practical problems that his clients bring to him. As an example, a client's real estate problem may involve the possibility of litigation in probate or bankruptcy court and the possibility of an appeal. Mr. Kouts' background in real estate, probate, bankruptcy, litigation and appellate work would all be beneficial in both evaluating and implementing the best strategy to solve the problem.
Mr. Kouts' approach to solving a client's problem is first and foremost to understand the problem from the client's viewpoint, and then to gather all information relevant to the situation, including the facts and the law, in order to determine and present the client with all viable, practical options and the consequences of those options. With a background in the hospitality industry, Mr. Kouts understands the meaning of personal service.
