About Robert
Judge Quackenboss became counsel to the firm in 1997 after retiring from his position as Superior Court Judge. Serving on the bench for more than 21 years and assigned to Middlesex County throughout his judicial career, he had been the Presiding Judge of the Civil Division and the Presiding Judge of the Chancery Division.
Judge Quackenboss graduated from Rutgers University in 1953 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. After serving two years in the United States Army, he graduated from Rutgers University School of Law in 1958. While at the School of Law, he was an Associate Editor of the Rutgers Law Review.
Shortly after graduation from law school, he joined the firm of Burton, Seidman & Burton. Thereafter, the firm became Burton & Quackenboss. In the three years immediately before his appointment to the bench, he was a solo practitioner.
Throughout his career as an attorney, his practice was focused in insurance defense work. His regular clients included Insurance Company of North America, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, American Surety Company (now Transamerica Insurance Company), Royal Globe Insurance Company, Medical Protective Association and General Adjustment Bureau. He was personally involved in the trial of bodily injury cases on an almost daily basis for 15 years before he was appointed to the bench in 1975.
He offers advice and assistance in both the general litigation area, based on his background as a trial lawyer and trial judge, and to the commercial group within the firm, based on his experience as a Chancery judge. In addition, he is active as an arbitrator and mediator and frequently serves through Court appointment in those capacities as well as in the capacity of a Court appointed master pursuant to Rule 4:41.
Judge Quackenboss is a member of the Middlesex County Bar Association, the Middlesex County Trial Lawyers Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association.
