About Rodney

Rod Murrow began his legal career with a large Kansas City insurance defense litigation firm in 1990 immediately upon graduation from law school.  While still in law school, Mr. Murrow was already trying cases solo in both bench trials and jury trials after being selected as one of only six law students to prosecute cases in the district attorney's office.  Once out of school, Mr. Murrow put that early courtroom experience to use litigating a wide variety of cases.

Later Mr. Murrow extended the scope and range of his practice with a smaller firm where he added representing plaintiffs in a variety of cases to his portfolio while continuing his insurance defense work.  In this environment, Mr. Murrow found that representing both plaintiffs and defendants made him a better lawyer.  When representing the plaintiff, he was better able to anticipate how the case would be defended because of his experience doing defense work; when defending a case he was better able to respond to the plaintiff's claims because of his experience as a plaintiff's attorney.

With this background, Mr. Murrow opened his own practice as a solo practitioner in 1996.  That same year, Mr. Murrow was invited to conduct employment law seminars for one of the nation's largest seminar companies.  In addition to his law practice, Mr. Murrow traveled throughout the continental United States teaching businesses and organizations how to comply with employment laws.  The topics covered in these seminars included a broad range of employment laws and human resources policies related to those laws.  During this time, Mr. Murrow was one of the top-rated speakers teaching for the seminar company.  While Mr. Murrow no longer conducts seminars for the seminar company, he still provides training to his  clients and other businesses locally and continues to use this knowledge and experience to benefit his clients, whether they be plaintiffs or defendants.

Since launching his own practice in 1996, Mr. Murrow has represented people from all walks of life, including professional athletes and coaches, all types of businesses and organizations, students, blue-collar workers, professionals, people from farms and small towns and people from large cities.  He has handled small cases and large cases which received national attention.  Mr. Murrow also represents developmental disability community service providers across the state in litigation seeking to enforce state and federal funding laws for the benefit of the developmentally disabled.

Mr. Murrow is married and has two young daughters.  He grew up on a small farm. He is a former competitive distance runner and ran cross country and track in college.  His hobbies include running, reading, trapshooting, hunting and fishing.  He and his family are active members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa , Kansas .  He is a member of the board of directors for the Hospital Hill Half-Marathon in Kansas City , the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce, Christian Legal Resources, and is on the stewardship committee at Holy Trinity.
