About Scott

Scott Davenport is a native of Providence, Rhode Island. He graduated law school in 1994 having obtained both his law degree and an M.B.A. During law school, he served as the Managing Editor for the Tulsa Journal of Comparative and International Law, interned for an Oklahoma Federal Magistrate Judge, and clerked for a law firm handling litigation matters. Scott has been a Texan since moving to Houston in 1994. He began practicing law in 1994 with a Houston litigation boutique in its commercial litigation section. During his tenure there, he represented financial institutions, restaurants, manufacturers, car dealerships, service providers, oil and gas providers, and other business entities in a variety of complex commercial disputes and personal injury defense matters. In 1998, he joined a litigation boutique firm (lead by noted trial attorney Mack Glover) and expanded his practice to include representing individuals and families involved in trucking and commercial motor vehicle accidents, auto accidents, slip and falls, premises liability, and general negligence, typically involving catastrophic injuries or death. He continued to represent businesses and individuals in business and commercial litigation matters. Scott became Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 2005 and was recertified in 2010. Board Certification is a mark of excellence and a distinguishing accomplishment. Within the Texas legal community, Board Certification means an attorney has substantial, relevant experience in a select field of law as well as demonstrated, and tested, special competence in that area of law. Less than 10% of attorneys in Texas are Board Certified. Scott has received his Transportation Worker Identificaton Credentials ("T.W.I.C.") issued by the Transportation Security Administration and U.S. Coast Guard. The TWIC card gives Scott unescorted access to secure areas of port facilities, outer continental shelf facilities, and vessels regulated under the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002, or MTSA, and all U.S. Coast Guard credentialedmerchant mariners Scott has been married for over 20 years and is an active member of St. Martha’s Catholic Church. He coaches girls soccer for the Texas Heatwave, served as Cubmaster and Assistant Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 909 in Humble, Texas, and is the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 1922 in Atascocita, TX . He is also the Executive Producer and a castmember for the annual production of Nightcourt, an all lawyer musical, acting, dancing “Broadway-esque” show performed at the largest venues in Houston (Hobby Center and Wortham Center), which has raised over $825,000 for local legal charities. (See www.Nightcourt.org) He is a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan and a long-time season ticket holder for the Houston Texans and Texas Longhorns Football.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

A man was killed while sitting at a local donut shop when another guest, pulling into a parking space in front of a local donut shop, stepped on the accelerator rather than the brake by mistake, rolled over the 1 ½ inch - 2 ½ inch curb, crashed through the plate glass windows, and into the building. After a valiant and painful battle to stay alive for 12 days in the hospital, the man died. We sued the donut shop for failing to have bollards (poles) in front of the store to stop cars from smashing into the building. The case settled for a substantial amount for the man's Estate after we established that this type of crash was foreseeable and should have been prevented by the donut shop owner.

Hiring an experienced attorney is extremely important to maximize your recovery in any claim. It should be someone who has handled your kind of case before, and who has the knowledge of the court system where the case will proceed.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

While we prefer to meet our potential clients in person, for many personal injury claims, we can initially assess the merits of a case on the phone and determine whether it is worth investigating further. If further investigation is necessary, we will get our team to gather what we need to complete the analysis and meet with the client in person to decide how best to proceed.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

At a minimum, we need the facts of the incident (i.e. dates, how it happened, all responsible parties, etc.), the nature of your injuries, and what documents do you have to support your claims.
