About Sean
Litigation partner, Sean Riley, grew up in Sydney, Australia. He received his Bachelor of Economics degree from Sydney University in 1978 and Bachelor of Laws degree from Sydney University in 1981.
Riley worked as an attorney in Sydney specializing in complex civil litigation from 1982 to 1985. After returning to the United States in 1985, Riley was admitted to the California State Bar in 1986 and joined Glaser Weil in March 1990. Riley became a partner with the Firm in 1991.
Riley's practice at the Firm focuses upon commercial litigation and the providing of legal advice in such areas as entertainment, securities, banking, insurance coverage and bad faith, employment, contracts, and real estate. He has successfully represented major clients in numerous high stakes cases, including Bank of America and MGM Mirage in insurance bad faith actions in federal court resulting in multi-million dollar settlements before trial; the Bankruptcy Creditor's Committee for Carolco in the successful arbitration of audit claims against Pioneer Electronics based upon the distribution in Japan of certain Carolco films (including "Terminator 2" and "Basic Instinct"); Marsu B.V. against a major entertainment company in a federal court action for fraud and breach of contract resulting in a $10.4 million trial verdict, plus attorneys fees and costs; Bob Barker in successful defense of employment litigation by former model Dian Parkinson; City National Bank in defense of major property lending litigation resulting in summary judgment and recovery of attorneys fees; and presently is counsel for certain former directors and officers of Global Crossing and Tenet in connection with the defense of securities class action and related litigation.
Riley resides in Manhattan Beach with his wife Lynda and three children.
