Judy focuses her practice on the defense of complex personal injury and significant property damage actions. With over two decades of experience in defending clients as a senior trial attorney for two major international insurance companies, she has successfully litigated major Labor Law, products liability, elevator, trucking, environmental and premises liability cases through trial. Judy zealously advocates her client’s position while keeping defense costs in mind. Prior to her tenure at AIG, she was a senior trial attorney for Zurich North America, where she successfully defended medical malpractice, Labor Law, premises liability, motor vehicle and major property damage cases. While at Zurich, Judy created and managed the subrogation practice involving fire loss, building collapse, explosions, water damage, legal fee and worker’s compensation lien recovery, and nofault loss transfer. Judy was recognized throughout the company for her expertise in the field of no-fault loss transfer. Prior to her defense practice, Judy spent fourteen years as a plaintiff’s attorney for two major plaintiff’s firms, concentrating her practice on Labor Law, medical malpractice, premises liability, and trucking accidents. Her unique insight into how the other side thinks has made her a firm believer in the “know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em” strategy when resolving cases.

Prior to joining Hepworth & Murray in 2016, Tyler worked in the Office of General Counsel – International for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he worked on a variety of legal matters ranging from income tax issues, immigration, real estate transactions, and employment matters. Although he enjoyed the comforts of corporate life, Tyler’s real passion is advocacy, whether in the courtroom or the across the negotiation table. Tyler earned his law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law, where he received high marks in trial advocacy and was known around school for being a bit of trial junky. While in law school he worked in the public defender’s office as a court-certified law student where he represented three criminal defendants in jury trials before he even graduated. Also during law school, he received expert training in Alternative Dispute Resolution through the nationally ranked Oregon ADR Center. Born and raised in Davis County, Tyler takes advantage of all that Utah has to offer from the great culture and entertainment found in our cities to the amazing outdoor recreation that is only an hour or so away. Rachel Smith has a wide range of knowledge stemming from her extensive experience over the past two decades. With a degree in Electrical Engineering, she focuses on software, supplier, and medical device businesses, aiming to ensure that their IP protection aligns with their business needs and goals. Rachel is a registered patent attorney and focuses primarily on domestic and foreign patent prosecution in the electrical arts. Rachel consults clients from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups. Rachel has a deep understanding of various technologies in mechanical and electrical arts.
