Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
As Criminal Defense attorneys, we deal often with individuals who struggle with addiction and mental health issues. I am proud to say that not only have we minimized criminal penalties for a number of our clients, we have also succeeded in getting them into treatment for their issues.
How did you build a successful practice?
We generate a substantial amount of criminal defense work. A few solid PI cases per year helps round things out. My practice prides itself on service and communication. We genuinely care about our clients, and it shows. Our clients leave great reviews and often stay in touch even after their case is over. Our customer service helps to build our practice, as it generates repeat and new clients.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Communication between attorney and client is paramount to great legal representation. Prompt response to calls and emails, and the ability to really listen, are often underrated traits to look for in a lawyer. Of course, the other big one is experience. A lawyer who knows what they're doing and who can communicate it clearly to the client-that's who you want to hire.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
It's very important. Particularly, in New Orleans, where state and local laws differ from other places around the country-for example with alcohol consumption. New Orleans is a prime tourist destination, and a number of our clients are tourists who were visiting our city when they were charged. In these cases especially it's tantamount for us to know the specifics and legality of the client's situation, since it can often be different than what they would expect at home.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
We always try to be as transparent as possible right out of the gate-clarify the legal procedure; how and what we will do for the client; what the client can expect in terms of a timeline. It's also helpful to share some experience from similar cases with the client, to give them an idea of the parameters of their situation and what to expect.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
The most important information to relay is contact information-making sure both client and attorney know how to get in touch with one another. It's also important to provide a case update. Make sure both sides are on the same page, with the most up-to-date and relevant info regarding the case.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
We offer a modern approach to law, and work to stay on the cutting edge of technology. We were one of the first firms in the greater New Orleans area to offer a digital legal experience. I personally have a passion for digital marketing, and implementing that into our business model is a big differentiators for us.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
At Bloom Legal, we have a genuine passion for people. We care about our clients, and it's meaningful to us to be able to help people who find themselves in difficult and trying circumstances. Helping people get their lives back together following an injury or criminal charge-all the turmoil that can bring at a personal and family level-that's why we do what we do.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I'm a big fan of sports-especially our hometown New Orleans teams. I also enjoy keeping up with politics.
Are you involved in your community?
I'm heavily involved in the community, and think serving and giving back to the community is an important part of the work that we do. I am the former President of the Orleans Parish School Board. I recently ran for city council, and lost by 127 votes. I sit on a number of civic boards as well.
