About Sidney
SIDNEY D. DURHAM, born in Detroit, Michigan, is a graduate of the Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville, New Jersey and the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where he received his B.A. degree in Pre-Legal Studies. He obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan in 1969. His family law practice has always been in southwest Michigan. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Family Law Section; State Bar of Michigan, Family Law Section, and the Kalamazoo County (MI) Bar Association, Family Law Section and has been its chair. He is the author of An Overview of the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act published in the Michigan Family Law Journal, April, 1995.
Sid is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He is listed in Who's Who in American Law. His practice is devoted almost exclusively to family law, including all aspects of divorce and paternity, and custody disputes, child support, visitation, spousal support and alimony claims, and pre- and post-nuptial agreements.
Mr. Durham has been a family law mediator in Southwestern, Michigan for over fifteen years where he has mediated hundreds of cases. While his practice includes all of the lower peninsula of the state of Michigan, it is concentrated primarily in West Michigan. He has recently been elected a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. His firm, Butler, Durham & Toweson - PLLC, is a seven attorney firm which specializes in litigation.
Mr. Durham has served the community in many extra-curricular areas. He sat on the Kalamazoo County Humane Society Board for many years and was its President for three years. He helped initiate the Pretty Lake Adventure Center, a not for profit corporation and was on its Board as well. He remains a member of Ducks Unlimited and was the Kalamazoo County Sponsor Chapter Chairman for three years, and he sat on the State Board of DU for three years. He has been a member of the Federation of Fly Fishers for many years. For two years he sat as a Board Member of the Kalamazoo County Fair Board. He remains an active member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Safari Club International. He has other interests as well, being a member of the Southwestern Michigan Motoring Association (Mad Dogs and Englishmen), the Northern Indiana Austin-Healey Association, and the Southeastern Michigan Austin-Healey Association, in addition to the National Association. Currently he is an elected Trustee of Ross Township where he resides. He is also a member of the Ferrari Club of America and participates annually in its events.
In addition to divorce and matrimonial matters, the firm also engages in wrongful death and serious personal injury cases. It also handles general civil litigation, probate matters, and specializes in the handling of all aspects of drinking and driving offenses. The firm also represents numerous business and corporate clients. The firm has members licensed to practice law in both Michigan and Indiana.
