About Sou

Sou Bounlutay emigrated to the U.S. from Laos in the turbulent 1980’s. Her connections were few. Seeking safety, she wound up in a small Idaho town, one of the few families of color, and the only to speak Lao. Sou’s parents worked long hours and endured physical hardships while working in potato processing factories, while she got her bearing in her new world.

When she was in second grade, she heard the phrase, “…for the People, by the People.” She knew what it meant and thought, “if only my country had these ideals, my family would not be scattered across the world. I wouldn’t be separated from my aunts, uncles, and cousins.” It was at this time, that Sou decided that she wanted to be a part of something that would uphold and work towards these values.

Tirelessly and with tremendous efforts, she learned about her new country and its place in the world at large. Her desire to serve and passion for justice inspired her to attend college and then law school.

Sou graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a B.A. Political Science in 1996; three years later, she graduated from the University of Idaho’s College of Law. Her practice is in West Seattle, focusing on personal injury and immigration law. Her mission is to help individuals of every social and economic tier to gain full access to their legal rights within the U.S. Justice System.

Sou gives a voice to accident victims who would normally remain silent than fight the daunting insurance industry and corporations. She works with survivors of violence and abuse, as they seek healing and justice in the courtroom. Sou protects individuals and their families from the government. She helps those seeking protection and an opportunity to restart their lives in a land of safety and opportunity.
